Post by: countryboy on December 20, 2004, 07:08:04 am
Woke up this am to 0° on the meter, so I went out to checkthe tub, still nice and warm at 103°, but I don't think I'm ready to get in at that outside temp.:0)

Same here in Columbus, Ohio. Where are you? It was 6 last night when I was in the tub with great clear skies.

I'm in central NY right on lake ontario, too wind here to try going in, I'm not to keen on the idea of frostbite:0)

not quite sure what 0 is but I live in Ontario Canada and right now we are at -20 (thats cold).   I couldn't see myself going in the tub when its this cold!  I don't think it would be enjoyable.  Too cold getting in and out.

The wind is the big thing.  After soaking at 104 for 20 minutes, I was easily able to get out of the tub, grab my robe, dump in the dichlor, close the lid, and get in the house before feeling cold.  No wind last night.

I think the lake is keeping us warmer than the cuse, but I'm getting the wind off it at home that I didn't have here at work inland further.

Those are all GIRLY temperatures... ;D

All that means is it's just starting to cool down enough to use the spa the way in which it was intended! ::) ;D

I went to school in Rochester (RIT, grew up Central NY). The wind off that lake can be brutal in the winter but don't let that stop you from enjoying the spa. The worst thing you can do is hide indoors because of the weather. Spit at Mother Nature and use the spa during the bleakest weather and let the neighbors think you're nuts.

Go 'cuse!!!

Hit 78 degrees yesterday afternoon - had to run the whole-house fan to get the place cool enough to sleep. Not real well insultated.

Chas and WindSurf,
I'm interested in what would intrigue the two of you to even open a topic that read 0° on the title?  ;) ;D

Actually, we've had a very mild winter to date. Here in northern Alberta though, it can hit -40C pretty quick at this time of year.

We all enjoy the spa when it's -20 or -30 as long as the wind is fairly calm. Getting to the tub is tough but getting out is no problem once the core temperature is heated. Nothing like jolting the system with a 104 degree hot tub then hopping out to do snow angels in -20 degrees, then hopping back in the spa.  8)

It's why I can't figure out why you nutcases in the warm climates that experience 60 degrees in winter can actually enjoy your spa? ??? You're missing the best part IMO! ;D

I know, I know....who's the nutcase that lives in an area where it hit's -50? I'll give ya that! ;D

Yeah, Len's got one of those too.

Is that standard with three massage pumps or did my cuz get that modified?

What colour?

Title: Re: 0° this AM
Post by: Steve on December 20, 2004, 07:30:52 pm
Well I am following in my mentors footsteps ya know! ;D

Len has the Titanium edition with 3- 4HP pumps I believe. I might settle for the Platinum edition with a 3 & 4 HP with 40 jets instead. I'm not in his tax bracket yet! ;D

Not finalized our decision on color yet as my wife hasn't seen all of the options up close and personal. I just really like the layout and the seating configuration for someone my size as well it offers great seating for the kids. A little bigger than I'm use to but we have the space, so why not! Go big or go home right?

6 Degrees in Columbus Oh with the wind chill but you folks have inspired me, I'm going in.

I've been reading the posts, have had a tub for 6 months now and have learned a lot from this site. Still getting the hang of the chemical dance, I think I am making it more difficult than I need to.

Thanks for the great info!

Another Buckeye!  It was great that night at 6, last night it was 17, but worse with the wind. The snow angels turned out ok.

Last night was the coldest I've used the tub so far.
Temp. was about -5, but not much wind at all.
I had a nice soak for about an hour.  I've been installing ceramic tile in my basement and then we went Christmas shopping all day- my back was killing me.
And I pulled a muscle in one of my legs.
The soak was great.  It was a very starry night, and very quiet outside.  Mrs. B passed on this soak, she was still baking cookies and stuff, so it was just me.
When I got out of the spa, I stayed warm enough to close the cover, snap the locks shut, towel off, etc...

I went to school in Canton to get my associates and then to RIT for my Bachelor's. If you like the outdoors that's a great part of the country. I have friends from Saranac from my days at Canton and had a blast at their Winter Carnival. That was a few yrs back though  (the mid 80's from what I remember).

mid teens in dallas this am. that's about as cold as it gets here. I had to give it a try, and soaked for about an hour. was really quite nice. funny thing though, my bathing suit froze after draped it over the cover. also, the little bit of water that stands on the ledge froze over as well. this thing must be insulated quite well.

anyway, i'm ready for warmer weather.

yeah saranac is a quaint town, and placid is a lot of fun.  Little Italy in Saranac lake has the best pizza outside of new york city.  I've been to suny canton a few times, we played them in basketball 2 times a year.  They usually have a good team.
