Title: Hot tubs and booze
Post by: ISHAYKU on December 01, 2004, 07:41:48 pm
Just got a tub and was looking to invite some people over this weekend for a soak.  I was looking forward to a couple of beers, bottle of wine, martini or something to break in the tub.  I have been given mixed feedback on the combined effect of hot tubs and booze.  Anybody have any experiences with this, good or bad?

Heat draws blood away from your stomach which is needed for digestion making it eaiser to make your self sick.  If 12 beers would normally get you sick, 8 or 9 will get you there in the spa. As with most things, moderation is the key.

I'm not a drinker. Never have been. But I'm curious: do people really down 12 beers?

And then jump in hot water?

If so, do they make frequent trips to the restroom, or do they just.....  ::)

Wow. One more reason not to go in public spas.

Can people jump anywhere after downing 12 beers? ???

I think falling is more like it!

I have a brother in law whom I don't think has had less than 12 beers a night for the last 20 years.  I think he needs that many just to feel anything these days.

Sad.

You know, they say that mother's milk leads to heroin.

Twelve beers in one session?  Maybe when I was a LOT younger (and stupider), but not any more.
I find as I age, my tolerance for alcohol has gone down.
I now go for a smaller quantity of the good quality stuff.

I could down 12 American beers without blinking. The stuff is like water. 8-10 would be the max on Canadian product, although I would not normally consume more than 5-6.

Back to the topic at hand:
I like to enjoy a bevy in the tub. Like flying, drink less than normal.

The last I checked when I was comparing which lite beer I wanted to drink (You've seen my pic) I found this to be accurate. I think most regular American full beers are about .25%-.5 % above the light counterpart.

I didn't want my 500th to be abooot beer, but here goes:

Canadian standard alcohol content 5, some as high as 8 or 9%

A lite beer in Canada is >/= 4%

I'll give you a big tip.

AVOID any mixed drinks that have Hershey's chocolate syrup in them ! Especially AVOID accidentally dropping one of those drinks into the tub !

It makes for a lot of cleanup the next day.

Yuck !

Try this on for size in your holiday hot tub:

Liquid Cocaine Shot

1/2  ounce Peppermint Schnapps
1/2  ounce Jagermeister
1/2  ounce 151 Proof Rum

Mix alcohol in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice, and strain into a shot glass. Please drink responsibly.

LOOK OUT!

That's not an alcoholi drink, that's rocket fuel!  I've never really enjoyed the taste of beer myself. I personnally prefer hard liquor with the right mixtures. Long Island's, Mudslides, and Margaritta's go MUCH better with hot water. 2 or 3 and that's all anyone needs (remembers).  If you DO manage to drink 12 beers, does the waterline in the spa increase in a proportional manner? I mean, all that fluid HAS to go somewhere, right?

That sounds good. But I'll bet you can't drink more than 3 of them !

Our conc0cktion was:

1 shot clear creme de cocoa
1 shot vanilla vodka
1 shot clear creme de mint

Shake in thinkyshaker (as described above) over ice and pour in small glasses (with ice). Final touch is to add a little bit of Hershey's syrup to it and mix with a stirer.

They taste great, but try not to dump one into the tub. The chocolate "ring" is a bi--h to get off the next day !

Love Canadian beer, but I LOVE their Mike's Hard Lemonade. Vodka, none of the malt crap, eh! Nothing like, a Mike's Hard lemonade while sitting at the shore watching the kids play in sub-freezing ocean water!

It's a joke but we bring up a case of Bud light for my Dad to Nova scotia and we buy the Canadian for us.

The mint drink with syrup- does it taste like a girl scout cookie?

I'll check it later when I get to the store.

I don't think its very high though - most of SoCal has pretty good water. I get the occasional farmer or other urban dweller who had a well, and I call tell the difference right off.

Depends where in southern california you are.

Colorado Water is high is TDS typically 500 to 700 mg/L

Northern California Water (State Project Water is better), typically around 300 mg/L.

The LA water from the Owens Valley is very good. (about 150 mg/L TDS)

Some of the well water can be very good or very bad. The goundwater in the Chino / Ontairo / Corona area is very high in nitrates from all the cows in the Norco area. Normally it has to be treated (ion exchange and/or reverse osmosis)  before distribution.

In comparison, most surface water from the east is around 100 mg/L.

No mixed drinks in the hot tub allowed here...

No, I just keep forgetting to get my little cheat sheet from the store. Sorry.

Let's go for around 300 most of the time. We get water from lakes around here, and they just switched to wells about three weeks ago. I can always tell because it's the only time we sell Spa Up.

Oxnard, a larger city next door, gets water from Northern Cal via the Aquaduct. They have better water generally.
