I live in West Centra Wisconsin. When we came home from for the Thanksgiving weekend. Our Spa cover had three inches of Snow and mostly Ice on the cover.
I tried to broom it off, then tried a sqweege. Some did come off but the ice was fairly solid. I was fairly successful breaking off chunks of ice with my fingers.
However I did notice that our Marquis Spap cover did not look any different than our driveway, roof, sidewalks, deck, etc. So the cover did it's JOB insulating the spa.
After a 300 mile drive I was not able to use the spa for a week until the sun melted it off. I know I could have used warm water to melt it off. But with the very cold temps and getting home from my office at 8:30 p.m.
I just let the sun and warmer weekend temps to the job for me.
So my question is. Is there an easy way to have a second cover on the spa that will be fairly easy to remove and replace. And give extra protection to my spa cover?

Cover the spa with a tarp but only when it is gone to snow. Otherwise you could build up heat under the tarp.
I've also been impressed by the frost on my cover when the temperature is about 32F

I would love to find a tarp that would fit like a fitted mattress cover with elastic. I think that would be perfect.

Yeah, we get a lot of that here, too.
;) ;)

Btw, how earthquake proof are HS spas?
That's one thing we northerners don't need to worry about. ;) ;)

I have had lots of experience with that one! They seem to do just fine. I have had the unfortunate experience of coming to the store only to find half the water had slopped out of a spa and onto the carpet - in my next store I plan on tile, stained concrete or something like that, with floor drains if at all possible.
I had a customer who had one 'walk' off his deck and land a floor down. Surprisingly little damage, other than the corner it landed on, and the patio furniture that ended up under it, it was repaired and put back up on the deck. As I recall, they upgraded the deck supports and put in a more beefy railing...but they bought their new patio furniture somewhere else !!! That was before digital cameras - I really wish I had pictures.
The HS dealer south of me had his store come down. Most of the spas were fine. He never reopened that one.

For the snow and ice - how about using a tarp with bungee cords.
For earthquakes - 4 - 10" carriage bolts through the bottom of the spa should keep it from moving off a deck!

Nope. Been there, done that. Didn't work. Took the deck boards with it.

The Packers are a religion up here. It' funny to hear on the news or read in the papers. That churches are compeating on Sunday's with the packers.
Packers, Beer, Deer Hunting & Brat's.
It truely is a sickness.

Voice of experience here, do not raise your cover up on its lifter when it has 2-3 " of snow on it.

Any time a business doesn't reopen after a disaster I suspect foul play. Perhaps he arranged that earthquake.

That decreased Chas' competition so I'd be equally suspicious that Chas was behind that one.
