Title: Good Deal?
Post by: gb60 on November 14, 2004, 09:36:30 pm
After too much shopping, we decided the Jacuzzi J-345 was our best option. The local dealer wanted $6200 and would not negotiate at all, and had to order. The next nearest dealer, 60 miles away, started at $6000, and after a lot of persuading went  down to $5900. We agreed on this price. When we called to schedule delivery, he said he had misread  his inventory sheet and the one we wanted had been a wet demo. After more discussion, we were offered the wet demo for $5500 or a dry demo, in the second choice color, for $5700.
Should we be weary of a demo? Are we rightfully miffed that six days post-deal he had not called us about his mistake before we called him?

Weary or wary?

One thought that comes to mind is the wet demo had to be working and not leaking or there would be a problem at the store.  Any jets that might want to jump out will have been repaired. A new one coming from factory might have had a rough ride or rough handling but the trip from the dealer to you might involve rough handlling also.

I lean toward the wet tested tub being a known good tub on which everything works.

Weary wary and worry all fit!

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention the dry demo had the spinning small jets instead of the rifled type. Is this an indication of an older model?

I agree with Tubbin.
As a consumer:
If you get a discount and you know the tub works and doesnt leak.. take the cheaper one.
As a dealer:
Just go look at it carefully to see if there are any scuffs or scratches.  Part of the discount is that there may be scuffs etc..and you have to be OK with that.  If you want it to be perfect then a display may not be for you.
