Title: Hasn't been used in 2 years, but still holds water
Post by: Viper_Dude on March 16, 2006, 10:56:43 am
WOW! I saw this on Ebay and just had to share. Here's the description:

Morgan Spas Ozonator Hot Tub Jacuzzi. I am selling this item for my next door neighbor. He said that he bought it about 6 years ago and it was in use until 2 years ago when his landscaper cut the underground power line. It has sitting ideal ever since. He is installing a new deck and the tub is in the way. It still has water in it and it looks clean. It may need some pump seals, TLC other minor repairs after sitting ideal for 2 years. I could not find a nameplate but the digital panel reads Morgan Spas Ozonator. It measures 7 x 7 and there are a lot of jets in it. I saw 2 pumps and one heater inside the side door. The outside wood is in fair condition with only some minor rut on the backside. The cover is in fair shape and still very useable. The gazebo top can be removed fairly easy for transportation. Overall the tub is in fair shape and it looks like it was well maintained. Since we can not power the spa up, it is being sold as-is, as shown and where-is.

I thought it was a joke until I saw the pictures!

In case you have to see this with your own eyes, ebay # is 4447638574

BTW, sorry if this is a repost.

as gross as the crap on the shell looks,  I am surpised the water looks that good after 2 years.

Don't understand why they didn't fix the power line? They sell kits for splicing underground wires for less than $20. (don't ask how I know that  ::) )

On second thought, I'm calling BullSh__ on this.

I don't thinkk the seller is being forthright.

no way will water left for 2 years looks that good.  This tub was recently filled.

and the more I think about it,  someone not making a cheap fix (cut wire) on  a hot tub is even more stranger.  The fact it's not sitting on a pad has me concerned as well.

currenlty there are 12 bids on it, and is up to $180.00

Surpised the seller couldn't get more info on Morgan Spa.

Google gave me:

I was thinking the same thing. How could is still have water in it after sitting for two years in the Texas sun?

We have hauled more Morgan and Sunbelt Spas to the dump than any other brand.  Every single one of them looks like that (or worse) within 5 years.  Cheap, disposable, kit spas.

ok.......red flags:
1) landscaper cut wires, and the tub was so unused or crapped up that they didn't want to BOTHER to make them pay for repairs?
2)water's still in it? WTF would be growing in 2 year old, uncirculated spa water? EEW.
3) selling for his/her neighbor...uh-huh....and the Easter bunny just dropped off "black jellybeans"......
4) it's sat that long, and NO ONE DRAINED THE WATER??????
Okay, there's more, but.....well, that should be enough to make you figure that the person selling that tub's less than on the "up and up"......poor buyer......  :'(

Someone should ask the seller to weigh the cover. I'm betting on 50 pounds.

You might be surprised...my father has an old 2 person (4-6 when I was a teen 8)) tub in his basement.  Every 2 or 3 years, he'll drain it and wash the filter / refill it.  He doesn't "get" the sanitizer thing, and will usually throw some chlorine in at the fill, and promptly forgets about it.  After a LONG time, it still looks crystal clear except for dead spiders and what looks like underwater webs in a few corners (slimy webs!!).  Never gets cloudy.  True story.

I assume he at least ran the pumps for filtering?

Unless that is an airtight cover and the water was sanitized before the power was cut, then after 2 years of idle, stagnant water they'd be some bacterial growth, and of course evaportaion.

As far as cutting the power cords, you can do it with a mower.   Trust me.    The previous owner of my house ran an electrical around the base of my house. After several years, it worked it's way up and my mower took out a 2 ft section of it.
