FWIW Map Quest tells me:
Total Est. Time: 4 hours, 2 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 270.50 miles
That's based on driving at posted speeds and does not account for abnormal traffic. r

If I was sent back in time 20 years I'm not sure what technological thing I'd miss most but not having Mapquest would be on the list for sure!!!

I love Mapquest too...I also like this one:
http://maps.google.com
It allows you to toggle from map to satellite image which you can zoom in to see how interchanges will look once you come up on them so you're better prepared. It's also cool to look at satellite photos of your house!

THanks for all our help. My hubby is a truck driver, and is just heading into Vegas, he scheduled to drop off his trailer in EL Monte(SP). He has never been there before, and from what he can tell it is just outside of LA. I am trying to help him out any way I can. He is only allowed to drive so many hours per day, so we are trying to make sure he makes his drop on time.

I must say it varies greatly on when you go. If you go on a holiday weekend double your time. I live 2 minutes off the 15 freeway in Corona CA and we went over 4th of July weekend. We left at 8 am Saturday and arrived in Vegas at 4pm. It was horrible. Coming back we left at 4pm and were home by 8pm.

Brook is right. It completely depends on time.
I've done it in 3.5 hours on a Thursday night from Vegas back to L.A. - the stream of cars going the other way is endless. I don't know where they park them all.
Best bet. Don't go to Vegas if you don't have to. Ever.
