I just joined and have no 'friends' :'( so I was curious if anyone else is on there. Even though there are 48million odd members it seems like 47million of them are under 18.

Brooke, Funny you should ask, my friend and I spent quite a long time on
Myspace today in shock. Many of the young girls that our kids are good friends with (middle school 12-13 year olds) have posted pictures, and far too much information on pages that they have created on that site. I am sure that they have no idea of how dangerous that can be. They also use a site called Xanga and link to Myspace. It appears that they are using camera phones and digital cameras to post pictures of friends, many unaware that their images are out in cyberspace, again with far too much information.
For adults, this may be a way to meet people and share information, but what we have found with these kids has blown us out of the water! The problem is, how do we approach the parents? My one friend's daughter posted a lot of bogus information about her age and sexual experience, but too much accurate information about where she goes to school and the activities that she participates in. Let me know what you think about the info you find on that site. Thanks
-
My son uses myspace and like Bonibelle I was surprised to see what's on there. Some of the underage girls are showing stuff they really shouldn't and the info they put on there is unbelievable. And you're right, most are young teens.
I don't like it myself but my wife and I are trying to be cool since my son is a good kid. I do monitor things on a once a week basis to keep him honest though.
-
My daughter just signed up and started using it last week. I'm not too worried about it considering she's almost 19.
Maybe I'll have her show me how to use it and then I could be your friend!
-
Ok, so now my conservative nature will come through. I never heard of the site until now and so I took a peek and...
I would never allow my daughter access to the site as long as she lived with me.
Topics on sexual orientation, partying, requests to be contacted. Sorry, but I will probably turn out to be pretty protective of my daughter. Granted she is only four year old right now.

I haven't checked out the forums or anything yet really. I have no desire or time to really do that. I just wanted a profile to try to connect with old friends and in case I wanted to start a blog.
I did a search of the local highschool and was shocked that there were 1370 entries. I have no idea what the population is at the highschool, but I'd say thats a hefty percentage of the population. I can't believe the kind of info they provide... aye yaye yaye.
Its funny I've only had 11 views of my profile, but I've had 2 people (strangers) contact me already. Scary stuff out there....
-
Brooke, how about classmates.com? When we had a class reunion we used that site and it helped us to connect with old friends and catch up on class mates. You do have to pay to join and get all the abilities to access stuff, but it may be safer and at least you would know who you are talking to.

You are correct , though if you browse groups you will find groups like over 50 etc.. perhaps even something to do with Spas, massage etc.. It is fun to look at some of the follow me to my pay site gals !!

Hey I am 50 , but I remember some of the "Things" I did in Texas while in HighSchool ( which involved girls) and well then you had to provide some charm and perhaps a bit of Pot but the effect was to get them to your house for some sort of sex play while parents were at work. On MySpace at least you get kids from oppsite sitedes of the country "Talking" about sex but the incident of actually getting down and doing the deed are likely much less than when I ( we were young teens , pre HIV etc..) so talk is pretty safe I think .

Somehow your statement does not make me feel any better about this site.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
ummmmmmm, while that "sounds" logical.......... sorry, not even close to correct.. Yes the talk goes on cross country, BUT, it's a LOT easier to ummmmmmmmm, meet local "partisipants" as the pickins is a lot wider..... NO I DON'T yet have and personal experience, but I have a younger friend..or two.........

Not even close to being true. Nowadays it seems like they have sex as kind of a favor to each other.

Sex..... being used as a favor??? Isn't that called marriage? ;D

Posting on the internet is a waste of time and is for lonely, disturbed people.
Is anyone there? Please?!!! Talk to me, please!

I do have a my space. I started it mainly to keep an eye on my daughter and her friends. I have spoiled some of the fun for several of her buddies by simply suggesting their folks go take a look.... It is a dangerous place for teens who are not supervised, in my opinion.
My 'my space' URL is:

Turn your speakers down just bit...

Very nice site Chas. Now I know why I like you so much. You didn't list hot tubbing as one of your interests though.
Brook, can we take a look at your site now? :o
-
Very nice Chas! this MySpace thing with the kids has become a real concern. We are working hard at my kid's school to organize groups to educate parents and to at least get them to take a look at what the possibilities are! Some of the "very computer- literate" parents had no idea things like MySpace and Xanga were even out there! Or that friends had posted their children's pictures on these sites.... :(
-
My old college roommate and one of his kids were at the store yesterday cleaning my carpet. His son asked me if I knew what Xanga was. My reply was "Some of that weird Japanese animation?".
Well, he showed me his website. His family are Jehovah's Witnesses and evidently he is on a forum full of other like-minded individuals. I couldn't believe the screen names: SexyGurl123, BabyDoll123, Babygotback, etc. This little 13 year old boy's screenname was JigiloTXXXXX!!!!! What in the hell is going on? The kid had his cell phone glued to his ear the whole time and then told me one of the "hot chicks" was coming over tomorrow night. I didn't think JW's believed in modern conveniences like electricity, cell phones, and plumbing, but here he is plugged in to the Matrix and doing very "worldly" things in it. I don't think his old man has a clue.
Parents, watch your dang childrens. Talk to them, play with them, teach them about the dangers of weirdos in this world. Teach them to defend themselves. Get rid of the mindnumbing video-games, take the cable TV and internet out of their rooms, and quit feeding them CRAP in their diets and minds!!!
That's all. Have a nice day everyone. :)

MySpace... not a nice place from what my 16 yo. niece tells me. Like Mr.Term. says, keep an eye on them!. Oh... and teach them about firearms saftey too. Even if you don't have guns in the house someone else may have and a kid needs to know how they work and how to respect them. I'm a big brother to a 9 yo. boy and he knows the rules.(please see eddie@nrahq.org ) A great free program! ....O.K I'll get down off my soap box now.

Dateline did a clip on MySpace, you can see what they said by going to their website....

I still think if the kid ( teen or younger) is inclined to show him or herself scantly clothed and share information about their sexual or other thoughts, then they will find an outlet( at least it is not the outlet mall) There are kids with their own web pages many of which talk about hobbies and organizations, not just sexual content) GeoCities has been around for a long time. And remember it is our culture that emphasizes sex as something to be proud of and kids want to be mainstream for the most part. I think I saw a hot tub photo here with a rather seductive woman facing a crowd of gawking men . so Jeanne Bene Ramsey( sorry for spelling) what was she giving the crowd a piano recital or a sexy rendetion of May West ? Not opposed at all to parents parenting, this is what they should do. But to look at the vehicle as the cause may be a bit shortsighted. It is not MySpace that causes kids ( and adults) to post what they will remember polaroids?

Hey, Brooke! Are you getting UFC 57 PPV tonite? I've been looking forward to it all week...friend's coming over; beer's in the fridge...it's shaping up to be a good time ;D 8)
-
Nope, we aren't getting it tonight. Well, maybe, the man is making me mad so I may get it just to make him po'd. ;D We usually wait and watch it on Spike later. We will order the Matt Hughes/Royce Gracie fight. I wouldn't miss that for anything.
I love me some Matt Hughes. :)
As for the JA hate site... I take offense at the Milli Vanilli comment. They rocked. There's nothing better than some cheesey ^%$ music by Milli Vanilli to cheer me up when I'm having a pity party. I tried to have one of their songs on my myspace site but I couldn't find it anywhere. Oh and Legally Blonde was a good movie too. #2 sucked, but the first was classic.
-
Ok, you talked me into it. I ordered it. This is the best weekend ever. UFC, The Super Bowl and I've already gotten good lovin' twice. Life is good. ;D
-
I'm glad I got to see Couture's last fight, but I was a bit dissapointed by it. Kind of a waste of $40 if you ask me. Oh well, there were a few good fights.
Bring on Rich Franklin Vs. David Loiseau. I love me some Rich Franklin too. ;D
