Title: Pea Gravel or Concrete
Post by: pcaulfi on September 01, 2004, 02:42:53 pm
Sorry, if this has been beaten to death already, but a quick search didn't turn it up.

I just bought a new tub, to be installed next week. I am planning on setting it on a pea gravel base (dealer called it a sand box install).

What do you think? Should I use an EZ-Pad on the gravel?

What is the size and filled weight of the tub?

Larger tubs (5000-6000 lbs filled w/6 people) we suggest a 10X10 4" concrete reinforced slab.

If you are talking about a smaller tub, pea gravel should be fine.  I have had a customer install a Caldera Martinique on pea gravel with no problems.

Personally, I would go with a slab less likely to go off level.

hello,

I was surprised to hear the same 'sandbox' suggestion when the HS guy came to survey our tub location, but a few folks here assured me that it was indeed a viable option.
We plan on building the sandbox real soon!
