A doctor meets a Psychiatrist at a fund-raiser and begins to complain. "I hate these things.  Every time I come to one of these people always ask me medical questions about their health problems.  I spend some time helping them and then I never see them come to my office"
The Psychiatrist returns with " Do what I do.  Answer their questions, then send them a bill"
Enjoying the new theory, the doctor thanks the Psychiatrist and starts to mingle with others.
The next morning the doctor returns to his office to find a bill.

My appolligies...I am not the best at telling jokes.

PS I promise

CNC Programmer; IT Administrator; Planner

4 years ago we had 4 people filling these positions. Things slowed down, and I was left to do it all. We've picked back up the last 2 years, and I still do it all. That's why I have to work 60-70 hours a week, and need a spa.

Oh, plus I have 4 kids, 14, 10, 5, 5 weeks. So I really need a spa.

15 years in retail, a bunch of stores (home furnishings/decor.)

Needed to be home (a lot!) when I suddenly became a single dad w/4 very young kids.  So I started career #2 - local construction co, work from home (decks, remodels, garages, room additions.)  That was great when the kids were pre-school and through the early years.

Kids got to high school and I started career #3 (current) - a boring office job.  (The benefits are better and a whole lot cheaper than when I was self employed, LOL!)

Fishing!? Fishing..... lets see I used to know what fishing was.... Do you have to write a business plan before you go? How much setup is involved? How many people do you have to hire to get it done?

Fishing.... Chas, do you remember what fishing is? Maybe you can remind me!

Funny you should ask. In my life I have had many jobs, and owned many businesses. So, when I got the urge to buy a boat with my brother in law, we couldn't just go pick one out and go fishin' like normal folk. Oh no. We figured, "hey, we'll get a commercial license, and fish enough to pay for the gas. Why, we're such geniuses we might even pay for the boat. "

Our wives looked at each other and sighed.

We took a perfectly good hobby and ruined it by putting all the stress and worry of a business on top of it.

Yes, I remember fishing alright.

OK,
I've thought about the fishing thing. You take a pole and a line and try to catch the little commie bas-- no, that was Honduras in another lifetime.

OK, back to the pole and string and you show the customer how to swim against the jets - no, that was selling AFS swim spas.

How about you put the bait out and wait for a bite - no, that was Kansas and Arizona state fairs.

I don't think I can relate this to anything but work. I’ve worked 2-3 jobs since I was 14, no wonder I believe in spa ownership for relaxation…… you don’t have to go any further than your backyard to take a break!

My first novel was just that, the first.  That being, I didn't even send it in for consideration because I didn't feel it was up to par.  My second attempt already shows marked improvement, so I will send the second one in first, then re-work the first ... bringing it up to at least par ... I hope.  Getting published for the first time is remarkably difficult.

Good God Stuart take a vacation!

Come to North Dakota where we have some of the best Walleye fishing in the world.

A short 82 mile trip from here and your on the beautiful pristine waters of lake Sakakawea.

While fishing from the boat you can look up into the badlands and see buffalo grazing. You can transport yourself back in time to when Lewis and Clark drifted down the same waters while dicovering this great country.

I worked in the tourism and travel business for 14 years before selling spas and fireplaces. Can you tell!

Chas,
Interesting post about your fishing business. We're in the first stages of our guided fishing and pheasant hunting business.

We've got the cabin (and hottub on the deck of course)and the boat but still wadeing through all the coast guard regulations for the fishing guide end of it.

Hopefully this won't turn more job than fun someday!!

It is kinda nice to get a personal window into everyone that frequents this board.

Well, I was a Paramedic of 10 years full time in a large city concurrent with being a small business owner (Emergency Medical Distrubution & Overseas production and import of medical consumables).

About 2 years ago I was enjoying business more then shift work and weekends on the road, and decided to make the move to Big Business. Leaving the stress of business ownership behind, and the crazy hours and abuse of being a paramedic, I joined Canada's largest Healthcare Distribution company as a Territory Manager specializing in Medical-Surgucal products for the acute care market.

Now being in this role for 2 years, while still abusing myself with the odd (casual) EMS shift on weekends, I have started the trek of higher learning. I should have my BComm in Entrepreneurial Management completed by 2007 and, if that doesn't kill me while ensuring my family received the time and attention they deserrve, I will continue on to complete my MBA in Executive Management (option to do General MBA in Executive Management, or add a specialty of Leadership or Consulting). WOuld be done the MBA by 2009.

Here is me in a nut shell.... Help, get me out of here!

It is best described as: a jerk on one end of a pole waiting for a jerk from the other end.
