I had a guy call yesterday that wanted to hook up an ozonator to a softub. He was trying to tell me that ozone takes care of all the bacteria in your tub accept for one kind that you can use some kind of enzyme to get out. After going back and forth about having to use chlorine with ozone he got on to the "chlorine causes cancer" kick. He said he saw research where a rat that drank water with chlorine got cancer. At the end of the conversation I told my co-worker about it and he pointed out I forgot to mention to this guy that ozone supposedly causes cancer. Oh well.
Any of you dealers get people going crazy about chlorine and cancer?
-
Some day I expect they'll find that cancer is hereditary in white mice.
-
I heard the rat in question used 2000+ cel phone minutes every month also. I guess we will never know.
-
The rat was also probably from California and everything is known to cause cancer in the state of California.
-
some years ago there was a study that proved carrots caused cancer. of course to duplicate the test in humans you'd have to eat 20 pounds of carrots a day for 3 years.......... and live in California ;D
Actually though, I believe what your customer is talking about is that there's a very rare bacteria (might be an algai.... old guy here, bad memory), when chlorine kills and oxidizes it, what's left behind is a carcinogen. The issue though is that you HAVE to ingest it for it to be a problem.
REMEMBER, if it weren't for chlorine more than 85% of the world's population would not have clean safe drinking water.............. to the point that it's estimated that without chlorinated drinking water the world as we know it today would be rather sparsly populated.
-
He was actually claiming that ozone by itself (with no other sanitation) killed everything but one type that could be taken care of with some enzyme.
85% huh? So the New World Order would be happy to remove chlorine from the drinking water.
-
I've become very cynical of all these cancer claims. Seems that every few years they change their minds on what is dangerous.
Sacharine was banned for decades- recently unbanned.
Which is it? Bad or Good?
They warned us about coffee and caffeine and now say it's ok. They said don't eat eggs, now it's ok.
If ozone in spas, bromine, chlorine, whatever, was as dangerous as some would have us believe, we'd all be bumping into each other at oncology clinics. ::)
Enjoy life, don't fear it.

How true!! I once saw a study that claimed that the exchange of O2 in the lungs actually produces a carcinogen (translation: breathing causes cancer :o ). I guess if that's true, we're all doomed ;D.

ok, not to get too off track about cancer (which i often say breathing is the leading cause of everything!! ;D ), this tid bit has to do with music.
remember all those claims that ozzy's music caused all these people to commit suicide? well, years ago there was a story that said country music listeners were more likely to take themselves out than a rock listener.
guess they should be listening to country backwards...wont feel so bad if you get everything back ;D
ok ok....bad joke i know. couldnt resist though.... my appologiese to the country listeners
socal (and rocker)
-
I love that joke!
What happens when you play country music backwards?
You get your wife back, your dog comes home, your truck runs again.......
-
I have heard...but I have no idea where from...that onions have as much cancer causing junk in them than the chlorine in our drinking water.
-
Some people are very strange, even moreso when the topics of chlorine, flouride, hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and silver ions are involved. These folks sometimes remind me of the colonel in Dr. Strangelove and his concern that flouride was "stealing our precious bodily fluids."
For example, I had a slam-dunk sale the other day. The gentleman's BIL had bought two spas from me and he was ready to buy one, too. When the question of the feasibility of installing an ozonator came up, I told him the truth: as long as they're working, they're great. But, they don't last forever.
Him: "So, you don't like ozone?"
Me: "Well, it has it's place. It won't make your spa chemical-free if that's what you've been told. It will supplement your water-care regimen."
Him: "What have you got against ozone? I have one hooked up to my drinking water. It's great."
Me: "I have nothing against ozone. If you want one on your spa, we'll put it on there."
Him: "I think ozone is wonderful. Why don't you think it's the way to go?"
Me: "I think it's great, too. I'm just telling you it's not something you NEED. I'll be happy to put an ozonator on your spa."
Him: "Huh! Ozone is the way to go. If you don't like ozone, maybe I'll buy a spa from someplace that does."
Me: "For the record, I like ozone. I would love to sell you one. If that's what you want, we'll do it for you."
Him: "No, I don't think you like ozone. I'll get back to you."
Haven't heard from him since. Oh, well.............

I heard today that people who eat beef from cows who inhaled second-hand smoke are more than three times more likely to die. Eventually.
-
Next thing you know, someone will be telling me that cigars are carcinogenic!

now THAT is funny

Not that I am old enough to remember, but does anyone remember what happened in response to the original "war of the world's" radio brodcast?

Amazon has has it! I still haven't had the time to listen to the copy I got a month or so ago.

Just about 1/2 the people who use chlorine in thier hot tubs die before the national median age.
This is a fact.
-
I know someone who has it. I got to listen to a little bit of it. Pretty cool.
-
I wonder what science will do when they figure out cancer is hereditary in white mice? ;D

My wife and I sponsor a child in a 3rd world country. When we were picking out the child at the table with all the pictures the lady running the thing said, "this kid is really cute" or "she/he is really adorable". I said "Are you kidding I want the ugliest kid in the stack.
Even charity is reserved for the "good looking" ones. It's sad I think.

Even more shocking, for those who work M-F, 40% of all sick days are taken on Monday or Friday.

Plays on statistics aside, I once saw an actual number somewhere -- as I recall it was more like 60%. I wonder why? ::)

I just read this weekend that half our population falls below the national income average. Folks, this may not be hot tub related, but I think we all need to be aware of this!
This proves that poverty is surely on the rise, and we need to do something about this now! I don't see how a country that is so obbsessed with war and hollywood can allow half of our own citizens fall below the national average. This is sick. These are our brothers and sisters, our mothers and fathers. It's a national embarrasment!

Did you know that 34.6% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

No doubt! If I'm correct Drewstar should have said half the people fall below the median salary. CEO salaries skew things way to the high end.
If 3 people at Walmart make $12k annually and a University president makes 800K that is an average salary of $209k

I stand corrected. Mean, Meandian, Average...blah. ;)

Yeah but we knew what he meant and I didn't want to hurt his feelings since he's such a big sensative guy. ;)
