Title: Is there a generic upper control for a D1 M drive?

Can I replace my Dimension 1 M Drive with a generic top control? The M drives only seem to last a year or two the the lcd goes dead due to water splashing on it? (Imagine water splashing in a hot tub...great engineering) 8)
