After retiring the 21 year old mouser, we have hired a new one.

She isn't afraid of her 15 pound brother, but she is scared poopless of the vacuum cleaner. Hard to tell.

All cats have an inherent fear of vacuums.

So did my first wife.  ;)

drewstar,
It may be inherent but they can get over it.
When I was growing up we had a Siamese (by the name of "Cat" - how original we were!) that loved the vacuum. It was an old canister type with a wand. Cat would hear it and come running. He'd jump in front of it and lay down on his side. My mother would commence vacuuming the cat. He loved the feel of it, I guess. He'd roll onto his back and sides to accomodate a good vacuum.
It was quite a sight!

I disagree. My first wife never got over it.
