Hi - not a happy soaker lately. My new tub can't seem to hold its temp (yes, I'm aware of HS' 2 deg variance). Set at 103, jump in and after about 10-15 mins it drops to 100 and stays there. I never had this issue with my Beachcomber - ever! And, it's a balmy 36 here. Thoughts/advice, please?
-
Hopefully one of the HS boys can help.. I am sure it can be taken care of, least one would hope.. Maybe they can do an over temp on it
-
sometimes when you turn the second pump it shut down the heater for protection . see if its the case , you should still see the heater icon displayed on your topside controller when you start the second pump .
-
What year envoy? If control panel is on front of spa a jp jumper might be set to 110 volt heater configuration. If control panel is on the bar top the spa soft jumpers or programing may need to be set to heater concurrent.
-
I believe he has a 2013. Hopefully one of the HS dealers will join in here.
-
What are you using to measure temp change? In most cases the 4kw heater will keep up with the thermal loss from running jets, do you feel hotter water at the heater return in footwell when jets are running? unless its well below freezing the heater will usually keep the temp. I suggest you call dealer and set up a service call with a tech to make sure the spa is set up properly.
-
It's a 2012 - I've been checking it lately when I soak :) Get in, it's a nice and toasty 103, w/in 15-20 mins, it's dropped like a rock to 99. And stays there (until I depart the tub, close the cover and return later, it's back to 103). And, the temp outside isn't bad (upper 30's today). I'm reading the temp via the control panel. I put a call to the dealer to let him know, we're now playing phone tag. He did tell me to check the heater/ozonator outlet in the bottom to see if it was jetting hot water, and it is (quite hot). FWIW, I do lounge around with the jets on high, but I gotta say, I'm getting very disappointed with the spa - I want my 103, not 99 :)
-
Maybe it needs 60 amp?..and heat is somehow shutting off when you are running the jets?
-
No, heat's still coming in with jets on - and I obviously don't know how accurate the temp reading is on the panel, but I tend to believe it's accurate - I can feel the difference.
-
HS rep called last week - they'll come out and check it but need the outdoor temp to be above freezing (we're at 6 today). At this rate, I'll see 'em in April ;)
-
We just got our sundance reprogrammed. We wired for 60 amp service and the factory settings are set for 50 amp which is what the majority of their customers apparently use. When we were in the tub we would have the temp drop too with both pumps on. The tech came out and reprogrammed it and....."bobs you uncle" we have heat with both pumps going!!!!!! Don't get too frustrated.....may be a quick fix!!!!!
-
Thanks, Mudheadsports - I'll make sure to mention it to the tech... when I see him. :D
-
Good luck!!!!!
-
Honestly I would have been on the phone about 2 weeks ago, asking why have you not been here yet... If your heater is on with both pumps running then it is set correctly. Also not sure why any HS experts have not chimed in yet or at least sent you a PM?
Hopefully the tech can figure out whats going on but seems to me you have waited quite awhile for some service on a "new" spa.. Good luck to you!
-
I agree fully, Jim! I got a call from the seller this a.m. and they're sending someone out tomorrow morning - it'll still be very cold (14 deg). I did call them yesterday since it's going to be in the 40s on Friday and I subtlety emphasized how much I paid for the spa and my growing displeasure with having to wait so long for service, but was told their techs were fully booked ... dunno, now apparently someone's free tomorrow and the outdoor temp is irrelevant.
-
Yeah I can see taking some time to get out as your spa is up and running compared to some that may not be in freezing temps. Hopefully they will find something going on with it hard to say. Will love to hear what they find!
-
Ok, tech came out, tossed three thermometers into the spa. Spa's holding temp at 103-104, but display is reading 98. He says the "intake" water is the temp on the display. I say BS, fix the display. He doesn't know if he can, he will "call the manufacturer". I also asked him to leave me one of those thermometers so I can check it next time I'm in. Also got the regular yadda yadda about how the temp will drop since it's so cold outside - yes, I know this. Any other HS owners have this issue? I think it's ridiculous that I can't/don't know the spa temp via the friggin' display (which reflects an avg 5 deg difference!). Thx in advance.
-
He should have had another topside to plug in and check if it's bad. I can see a 1 to 2 degree difference not 5
-
Sorry you're having problems, but mine keeps up the heat just fine with all jets on or off or any setting between. Mine is the 2013 HS Envoy. I have more of a problem with it heating up just a tad too much when I'm in it and running all of the jets. You can be in it in 20*, and put your foot over the heat inlet, and you can feel the heat pouring out. When the temp rises a little too much, I simply turn on the small fan above us and the water temp goes back down and maintains the temp it's set at. Even at freezing temps, the water stays at least as warm/hot as the setting states.
-
The tech was borderline surly/dismissive about it, which rather ticked me off - good to know the display should read the temp, not minus 5 as it's doing (thanks, Spoiledrotten - nice to hear from a HS Envoy owner). I called his office and touched base with the woman who scheduled the tech, gave her a heads up - she's supposed to get back to me. Honestly, wtf is the point of having a temp display if it's so inaccurate? That's my point and a real thorn in my foot right now.
Jim - what's a topside? :)
-
Topside= the display and button panel that connects to the controller inside the tub.
-
The topside is the unit on top with the temp reading and little btns that runs the jets, lights, temp etc., etc..
He should have been able to just unplug it from the circuit board and plugged a new one in to confirm it is or is not the problem. The other thing he should have done was have another temp sensor to plug in and drop in the spa to confirm temp on topside and or faulty temp sensor.. Least that's what I would have done, bit more impressive than throwing in some floating thermometers and telling you it's fine..
Rookie ::)
-
Lol at the rookie comment! Thx for clarifying what a topside is, both of you - that makes perfect sense. I appreciate ALL the help from everyone, it's enabled me to be better informed for my next convo with them :) Will keep you posted, literally!
-
To clarify:
There is no 60 amp option. Both pumps and heater will work at the same time.
Display should not be 5 degrees off.
Have you tried increasing temp to 104 to 105 to account for perceived drop?
-
Yes, Dan, I've increased the temp and it still drops to a 98 deg reading w/jets running ... :)
-
Hope they get it figured out....do they have more than one tech? Sometimes people just don't play nice together. I'm no expert but it sure makes sense that you would check the thermostats....have you also put a floating thermometer in to verify what the temp actually is? Sounds like the tech just wanted to get things done quickly and not correctly.....hope they fix it soon!!!!!!
-
Sounds like the heater is kicking off when the jets are on. Makes no sense. Maybe amperage issue?
-
Check your booklet and see if there is special wiring needed to run everything. We had a problem with ours that the tech needed to reprogram our tub. Our tech was here for a very short time and it was solved.....
-
Just got off the phone with the rep. The tech's going to come out and replace the sensor and put insulation where the intake sensor is. I suggested that he bring a new topside (lolol! Thanks, guys) as well. The kicker is: they can't tell me when he'll be out - hopefully by the end of the month (!) because they wait, yes, WAIT, to run service out this way until they have additional calls. From their business standpoint, I understand it, but from a customer standpoint, it really sucks. I'm not a priority because my tub is up and running :) I left a voice mail at HS this a.m. Thoughts? Advice?
-
I have a 2012 Envoy but I don't think anything is different from 12 to 13? My spa also drops temps quickly but only in these frigid temps. I'm in Chicago and we've been having a horrible winter! I leave my temp set at 102, and within minutes it drops to 99, but then again it might be zero degrees out. I do feel the heat pumping out of the floor drain even with both pumps on high. If I turn the pumps off it does heat back up quickly while I'm soaking. I think my scenario is just extreme cold temps. Even with my polar weather, it still only has 3 degree variance. Just chiming in here for a comparison. Hope they are able to solve the problem as running on 220 and your 36 degree temps, it should hold . Isn't it amazing how one degree can make a difference?

Darz
I would be accepting of their wait until we are out in the area again for a very short time. They should have as good of service after the sale as before you made your purchase. You have not made a $20.00 purchase. You've spent thousands with them and they need to take care of you. Good luck!!!!! Oh yeah and the nice squeaky wheel usually gets what they want........just sayin....
-
What jerks my chain is the other rep (Caldera) warned me that if I needed service from HS, I'd be waiting for one out of HS's other locations (out of state). I expressly asked the guy who sold me the HS about this and he told me that the only time I'd have to wait for a service call would be if they had to wait for a part to come in. I did speak with HS in CA earlier today and relayed my timeline. I told HS CA that if this was the type of service I could expect (waiting for someone else in my area to need service in order for me to get serviced), that they better come and get the tub. Shortly after, I got a call from the local seller that the tech would be out on 2/17. The surly tech (who broke my gate hardware, btw)!
-
Wow the 17th, how far from the dealer are you?? I get they would like to wait till another service call, we will as well within reason, but the 17th to me is to long for the purchase you made. Not to mention the rookie was out there once already and did nothing. And yes there is a time to be nice, then a time to say uh ummm....
On a side note it is not service from HS, it is service from the dealer. A company like Hot Spring, Sundance or Jacuzzi or any other brand for that matter is only as good as the dealer that sold the spa.
-
The service dept is 45 mins from me - and I'm grateful for the 17th, it beats the generic answer I originally got, "I can't give you a time window, but it'll be before the end of the month". And, tech has to wait for a topside to arrive (lol, still - I love you guys!).
-
45 min away? Good lord I drive 35 min just to get to my store everyday ::)
-
lol you should ask filters for compensation at least .
-
Keep pushing darzmr......if you're married have your wife call and be super sweet.......yep I do that!!!!!!! Maybe you have a valentines day............just giving you some extra ideas.....
-
Ummm... no, Mudheadsports - I'm a woman (hear me roar), and tho I admit to playing nice w/service folk via using the helpless woman charade, my HS tech is exceedingly boorish and borderline rude. I mean, c'mon, I did offer the man coffee and threw him my best smile when he arrived. That alone usually breaks the ice. Not w/him. But please don't read this wrong, I do not, repeat: do not, hit on any of my service guys - they usually hit on me... lol.

100% Correct Jim....I agree. When I had my Sundance serviced and finally replaced, both the dealer and the Manufacture were always johnny on the spot.. every time I needed service...They were a big dealer with multiple locations (Paddock Pools) and It really made a difference for me as a consumer. Great customer service is everything. Stay on it Darzmr...
-
Good girl darz.....just keep working it!!!!! Sorry about the wife thing....think most on the forum are guys.....guess I might be wrong!!!!! Anyway...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you....and I do not do the flirty thing either...but I am always very appreciative of a job well done!!!!!
-
Tech came out this a.m. and replaced the topside as well as the sensor. Hoping problem's solved (yesterday the display was reading 106 (lol, didn't know it went that high!) when I had it set at 102)... And, he's going to order new jets for the captain's chair's hand/carpal tunnels cuz they're not spinning. BTW, this visit he was very pleasant, wasn't surly - a total opposite demeanor vs. the first time he came out. What an amazing and nice transformation - I'm back to being a happy dunker :)
-
was it a used sundance or a brand new ?
-
Good for you, Darzmr! Glad you are back up and running correctly.
-
Hope it's the fix for you, just think if they had done it right the first time... My guess is the first time the tech came out he was having a bad day. Crappy cold weather, working on spas plus dealing with whatever else comes up in the midst of the day. Still shouldn't been passed to you but it's a good thing you are understanding. Being a service mngr you can only imagine the un-happy people that call with a problem on a spa. Discoloring pillows to their LEDS not working and a lack of maintenance on their part its the end of the world. Nice to see a patient and understanding person as yourself.. I can still say they made you wait to long for such a fix and being a new owner of a spa, but it happens..
-
Hold on to your towels - I think it's fixed! Soaking since the topside swap out and the temp display isn't swinging like a pendulum. Now I just sit back and wait for the jets to come in, gonna celebrate by tossing some Spazazz in the tub tonight. Thanks again, so much, to you all for the suggestions and advice (lol, watch, I'll be back in a few weeks bitching my jets aren't in...).
As an interesting aside, my HS rep is now also selling the Caldera line - he said it was pulled from the other company I'd been contemplating purchasing from (and they're now selling Bullfrog).
