Title: Making a Makeshift Spa Cover -- Glue?

My old spa cover, 16 years old, has crumbled to pieces but the Styrofoam halves are still OK, and all that I was able to keep. Buying and shipping a new spa cover to Hawaii is about $600, no thanks.

I want to take marine vinyl and glue it to the underside and top of the foam panels, and then glue a band of vinyl around the edge.

I've researched and found this comparative review which concludes that the best adhesive for foam is "Glidden Gripper" which is actually a primer. It's cheap, comes in a gallon can for $20, and I can roll it on with a paint roller. Perfect.

But my questions are:

1) Does anyone know if Glidden Gripper is waterproof?

2) How does it deal with humidity, heat, and hot humidity?

3) Should I be concerned about any fumes issues?

I don't know the answer to your questions, but you can order just the vinyl skin of a cover.  They have zippers and you can insert your existing foam cores into it.
