Hope I did this right. I poured a 6" reinforced concrete slab for the tub and a 4" concrete walkway inlayed with four 12x12 bluestone tiles. The electric lines were placed 16" under the concrete walkway in conduit leading from the patio to the hot tub. Here are a few photos of the work I did in my backyard of my house located in upstate New York. My family and I have been soaking in the tub every night from day one. We love it. All I need now is.. LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW....
Update 02/16/2014.. OMG!!!!! The Gods were listening when I said let it snow. I have almost 3 feet of snow in my backyard. Had to dig out around the hot tub to lift the cover off the tub.

yes very nice. 6 inches and reinforced with conduit under the slab.
let it rain /snow/flood etc. that thing is not going anywhere haha.
Was the concrete air entrained and min 25 mPa?
My pad was 35mPa and 4% air entrained. Up here in Canada we get the -30 Celsius temperatures during the winter.
The air in the concrete prevents it from damage from the cold. Flaking/cracking etc when exposed to hot water in freezing temps.
Mine is all good to go and waiting for the first flakes here any day. 101 degrees is about right these days.

Hottubdan. I made the steps for less then $100.00 bucks. Very simple, 2 2x8x10 pressure treated lumber and 2 8' veranda(Home Depot)decking, some deck screws, 90 degree brackets and a quart of grey outdoor stain.

Great job on the steps. I also knew I could build my own for much less than they cost at the spa stores or on line. Both of mine probably cost about $100 plus I added LED under them to illuminate when it's dark out. Made for a safer entrance and exit.

Thanks again for all the nice responses. Summerside9000 yes it was 3% air entrained with a min 25 mPa. Reinforced with a grid of 1/2in rebar every 12inches. That concrete slab will still be there long after this hot tub is gone and then will probably be replaced with another hot springs tub. Lol

quoting my old boss from my first job as a pool builder while still in school...."you have 2 options..you can do it right, or you can stay late and do it twice, you decide" lol...funny enough that can apply to a lot of things in life....happy soaking!

Sometimes you have to watch what you ask for!!! But the cold and the snow make hot tubbing so much better...

I was wondering why the cover was sitting so far forward and not dropped all the way back....then I realized something...I probably wouldn't have wanted to dig away the snow behind the tub Either!! Looks nice...Enjoy it! How well does that Grandee hold your desired temps while in use in that kind of weather?

Thanks duncritter. The tub has been great so far, my family and I use it just about everyday. It has been holding the water temp at a steady 102 degrees without any problem, even in this cold and snowy winter season the northeast is having. I was going to shovel the snow from behind the tub but we like the canopy effect it made. Then again knowing me if I did shovel behind the tub I would probably cause some kind of damage to the cover lift system by hitting it with the snow shovel.
