Title: Chemical order
Post by: vangoghsear on July 15, 2013, 08:00:55 pm
I have a pretty good idea about how to add the chemicals, but I thought I'd ask the experts here about some of the order.

My main reason for asking is I want to add Non Chlorine shock, but I need to raise my chlorine level?  Can I do them at the same time, or do I do one first then the other, or do I need to leave some time between them?  :o

Anyway, what is the order for adding chemicals?

I'm also keen to learn, and whether chemicals should initially be added cold.

In most instances there isn't really a correct order of what to add as far as I know.  I've seen an enzyme that says not to shock directly before or after, but most of the time I don't think it matters.  If it doesn't say anything in the instructions, I wouldn't worry about it, though it isn't a bad idea to wait a few minutes between products.   I wouldn't add granular products to cold water as they don't dissolve as well and could settle on the shell possibly causing damage.

Yet to fail me or a customer, Shock first run main pump on low 20 min cycle, then good dose of chlorine, run pump 20 min.  Then add one shot of clarifier or one line on side of bottle if using Leisure time, run pump 20 min.  adj PH/alk as needed..

Thanks JJ!  That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.   8)
