We have our wireless interenet ready for when we get our hot tub. I will be able to soak and read the board at the same time. ;D
Anyway... I was at the neighbors accross the sreet tonight talking to them about the sex offender. She wanted me to show them the website. I got on their computer and was shocked when I realized they are using our wireless internet connection. I don't really care, but it had me question a few things...
Should I be concerned with other people being on my connection? Can they hack into my computers? If they commit crimes (i.e. child porn) while on the web with my IP addy would that come back to me, even though its not my computer/hard drive? Do we need to somehow make it that you have to have a password to connect to our wireless or is it not realy a concern?
Like I said as long as they can't steal our info or get us in trouble I don't care that they use our net.

Yes, you should be concerned. In my neighborhood there are 12 wireless devices and I can get on 5 of them. Anything they do while on the internet can be traced to the IP address of your cable or DSL modem. For example if they get on your internet, sign up for a free web based email like yahoo, and then they send a threatening message to the President, guess whose door the secret service show up at?
Let me know the brand and model of your wireless router and I'll tell you how to secure it.

We've got a LinkSys WRT54G.

Great, but that code you put in gave me full access to your hard drive. Where do you keep the [glb]good[/glb] pictures?

We've got a LinkSys WRT54G.
Oh, yea, since that is probably the most common wireless router out there and 90% of them all have the default password, which I knew, I'd change that too.
-
Ok, well our router password has not been the default since we installed it... so we should be ok there.

I will add that I was the first in the forum to post a message actually from my tub in this forum. I put in a newer long range router today to improve the signal, and I added Brookes router to my list as a backup.
