In non-cold climates a friction pump can work ok on a small spa but if you have the choice get one with a heater.

I was looking at a hot tub that had this kind of water heating system, and of course, I know nothing about it. Live in TEXAS, so I really don't think the cold will be that much of an issue...well. maybe a few days a year. If it gets cold here, it changes to warm within a day or two.

If your looking to save money power wise, I would still go with a std heater type spa. You will enjoy it more in the long run.
