Title: vita spa blown fuses
Post by: oldtown on February 23, 2012, 07:48:05 am
i have a vita spa 2007 that blew a fuse last week, after a long search i found the right one and replaced it.  So when i got in it last night the temp had not risen all the way or i did not set it high enough which i thought i did.  one of the 2 stage pumps would only come on high.  i ran a diagnostic test and i got a REL error.  i ran the test again and i got an F2 code error.  so this tells me that is probably the reason for the original blown fuse.
#1 is the relay bad?  how do i test it? #2 is the pump starting to fail?   please reply before my wife makes me call the technician.  thanks DA

Welcome to the forum.  I am a technical person my nature with a lot of troubleshooting experience, none of which is with hot tubs.  ;)  Over the past 9 years I have certainly heard of plenty of relay failures here.  Have you found the relay?  It is removable? Can you see any signs of burning around the relay or its socket?

First, let me make it clear that this sounds like one of those times when you would be better off getting a pro to fix this - or at least troubleshoot it.

But having said that, I would proceed like this:

Disconnect the pump in question from the control system.

Test the output of the relay(s) -
Be sure it IS sending power to the pump,
Be sure it only outputs to ONE speed at a time.
Be sure it is not stuck 'on' for either speed.

Then test the pump -
Put power to the unit and see that both speeds work, one at a time.
   Don't run the pump dry.

And go from there.
