Title: Good deal for tub?
Post by: malibudude on September 29, 2011, 10:37:02 pm
Looking at getting my first hot tub. Can't afford the costs of a new one, so looking for a good used tub.

A dealer has a 2004 arctic cub elite (30 jets, 2 motors, arctic ozone kit, forever floor, cedar cabinet, cover and cover lift) comes with 90 days warranty and I have to pickup/deliver or pay quite a lot more for delivery and taxes.  It was a client who traded up to a larger tub.  Is $4K cash reasonable for this tub? That would make it 7/8 years old, however, I know Arctic tubs are well built and should operate efficiently.

Comments please?
thanks.

Buying used can be a good option if the spa and price are right and buying from a dealer with a 90 day warranty makes it worth much more than if buying from an unknown source. However, I'd estimate a good price for that spa from a dealer IMO would be about $3800 delivered so I think $4k not delivered is a bit high but maybe that’s just their starting point and after all, everything is negotiable.

Whether $3800 delivered or $4000 pick-up is a good deal may be dependent on your location.  If you are really in Malibu, any tub under $5000 may be a good deal.

thanks for the advice. Went in today and the tub sold yesterday even though I told the rep I would be in this morning. Not impressed about that. Seems these don't stay on the market for long.

Anyhow, there will always be another one.

I went to purchase the cub model and it was sold by the time I got there.  Disappointed yes, however, dealer was d*&%.  I ended up purchasing a used 2005 cub  designer model with the 2 tier stair package, ozone, new cover for $2200.  Everything was working when I saw it running. I think I did pretty good.
