Getting a little nervous after last night's loss, but we're still up 2-1.  Tonight's game is huge!  Kinda like the bad blood brewing between the two teams.  Who'd have thought that a Phillies phan would be rooting for Davey Lopes over Larry Bowa.  :o

No longer nervous.  :)

Can't wait for game-5 tomorrow night!  Phillies in the World Series?  Can you believe it, Boni?  :o

That was awesome!  :)

My family room TV died.  >:(  Rather than watch the game on our 20" TV in the bedroom, I went out to the local pub to watch it on their large screen HDTVs.  Had an absolute blast!  Of course, I'm paying for it this AM.  But it doesn't hurt to celebrate every 15 years...

Congrats to the Phillies, they beat the 'snot' out of the team that beat the 'snot' out of the Cubbies.

Must admit I'm an American League fan and will be in the World Series unless the Bosox sneak in, then I'll be pulling for the Phils.

A few years ago I had a chance to spend some time in Philly.  I took the 'train' from the 'Paperclip' down to the stadium.  Beautiful ball park and Luzinki's BBQ's were excellent.  He was giving out autographs to anyone who was in line to get a BBQ and surprisingly for a ball park the prices were decent.

OOOHhh Dax, you need to keep celebrating right on over to Circuit City and hook up with a new HDTV for the Series...they are in trouble and have some nice deals..Believe it or not, we watched it on the 23 inch kitchen TV rather than the large screen so we could jump up and down and throw food at each other :o :o. ;D ;D

Forget Circuit City, if you're not gonna use your large screen TV, I'll take it.  :D

Plan to go looking at TVs tonight after work.  I'll most likely have one by next Wed.  Although I sure did have fun watching the game at the pub last night.  8-)

Rays it is!

Was hoping for the RedSox because I would have loved nothing more than to beat them and all their front running fans who have come out of the woodwork the past few years.  Around here they're getting like Dallass Cowboys fans.  No geopraphical reason to root for them, but people do so because they've won a couple championships.

But I'll enjoy beating Tampa Bay too....  8-)

Did you get that big screen Dax?  Baseball is so slow, I can't just sit and watch it..so I will watch the WS in my kitchen..again since I can actually accomplish something while watching. If I sit infront of the big screen, I would go stir crazy watching those guys spit and scratch.. :o ;D ;D

I always root for underdogs and teams that have had a futile past. I'd be rooting for the Cubs if they were around and Philly has not won it since 1980, 28 years ago and that's thier only World Series title since Abe Lincoln was throwing out the first pitch at games so they're certainly due BUT I'm not rooting for them this year. All my love is behind the Rays. This is like Charlie Brown getting to the finals of a spelling bee.

Go Rays!!!!!

Bonnie, can you abuse your moderator priviledges, just this one, and change Spatech's posting to root for the good guys?  ;)

And no, I didn't get a new TV yet... may have to watch it at the local pub again.  The sacrifices one makes to root for his team.  ;D

I understand Spatech's position and I was the same way in the Cubs/Dodgers series and the Rays/Redsox series.  I'm over Boston now that they got the Monkey off their back with a couple of Series wins.  My Indians and Reds were out of it for a long time. I will go in to the series with no favorites just hoping to see something memorable happening, I've had good luck watching games that I had no interest in but was watching when many history making things happened..

From Memory

1. I turned on the Lions/Saints game when Tom Dempseyt hit the 63 yard kick to win the game. I had just turned it on after watching the end of the Vikings game that day. Everyone made such a big deal that this disabled guy set the record., I thought he had an unfair advantage.

2. Watched the "Heidi bowl" game

3. Watched the game that was with the Raiders where they fumbled the ball forward at the end of the game for a touchdown resulting in a rule change for the next year.

4. Watched the Bay area series when the earthquake hit.

5. Bartman,  Need I say more?

6. Wathed the famous Joe Pisarchik fumble, Giants had the game won he decides to try a handoff wather than fall on the ball for the win, he fumbles and the Eagles run it in for the win.

Shoot Dax, come on down..if you don't mind sharing the TV with a silly parrot that keeps singing the Ealges Fight Song...She lives in our sunroom with that TV..which is another reason that I stay in the kitchen when I actually want to hear something!!

Sorry about Spatech..it's his choice to root for the not so good guys...I AM NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING...

Ok, yes I am...if I understand correctly, the Rays are the lowest paid team in the league, they have the absolute lowest attendance of any team and they changed their name from the Devil Rays to just the Rays..because  ...???? I guess because people hated that darn fish that you always step on when you swim in the Gulf????  :o

The "Miracle at the Meadowlands."  That fumble was recovered and run in for a TD by Herm Edwards - the current, and soon to be fired coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

I doubt Fox execs were thrilled with Tampa over Boston. The Rays improbable story will get a little more attention than most small market teams but ratings will be low nonetheless. Non baseball fans & fly-by-nighters need the Yanks, Sox, Dodgers, Mets or Cubs to be interested (in theory with the Cubs). At least they're playing Philly whose market is good sized and whose national draw is at least decent.

Can you imagine how many more Fox Execs would be in the hospital over chest pains if the World Series had ended up Rays vs Brewers???

Sunday was one of the best sports days in the history of Philadelphia.  The Eagles win their game and the Phillies win two World Series games (game-3 ended at 1:45AM-EST and game-4 ended before midnight on Sunday).

Three down and one to go!  Hopefully, tonight is the night!  8-)

I am so glad someone got smart and decided to hold off playing until tomorrow. It is so nasty here. The wind is driving the rain in sheets. No one in their right mind would play anything in this weather. I have a fire going in my woodstove and keep checking the spa cover and the yard for flying debris..this is really a lousy day. :(

Post by: dax on October 28, 2008, 04:57:53 pm
Where's your spirit, Boni?  I was hoping they'd play a doubleheader today.... :o

It would have been brutal playing in today's conditions.  However, if MLB was really smart they would have not allowed the Phillies to take the field in the top of the 6th.  Hamels couldn't throw a curve nor a change-up with the wind/rain and the infielders were slowed down with the mud.  JRo would have easily fielded that one ball that resulted in the Rays tying the score.  >:(   Of course, they don't make the Rays pitch and play defense in that slop.  No big diff between the bottom of the 6th and the top of the inning so why play one and not the other?  Philly is cursed!  Oh well... we'll get 'em on Wed night!

So talk about political violence. :o.No wonder people think the Philadelphia fans are idiots. :(.they looted and destroyed things in the city. They even tried to turn over a bus load of police. WHO DOES THAT?  That's not how you celebrate! >:(..I can't believe goofballs take advantage of this and loot stores and destroy city property. they probably could care less about baseball, just opportunists waiting to rob places when the police are busy... I was going to say, "and Tim McCarver swallows...."  :o  Idiot was making excuses for Tampa - "the Rays are being penalized for playing in a National League park because they cannot use a designated hitter.  The manager has to take into account that the pitcher will be hitting 4th so he can't use their best pitcher."  How about the fact that the Phillies had to take the field in the top of the 6th in a frozen monsoon and with the suspension were unable to use one of the best pitchers in baseball, you frickin' moron!  Or the fact that other American League teams also played the World Serieis in other National League parks, yet still managed to win, you dope!  McCarver is a tool!

I actually think this is the best time of the years sportswise.  Yes, baseball is over, but the NFL is in the middle of its season, the NHL has started up along with the NBA.  NCAA football games are important, and NCAA basketball will be starting shortly.

For some reason, all cities seem to celebrate that way.  Another case of the few ruining it for the many.

I'm thinking of going to the parade with some people from work.  Asked my son, but he doesn't care if he goes or not.  My wife doesn't want him missing school either.  ::)  As long as he's not going, I guess I'll be able to have a beer or ten.... It's going to be a blast!  8-)

We'll have to agree to disagree on the NBA point but the rest of the sports I agree, it's a great time of the year.

This is the best time of year for TV sports viewing IMO. Though I'm a long time baseball fan and appreciate the Wolrd Series the NFL, NCAA football and NCAA basketball are great to watch and I'm an NBA fan as well.

I'm not into some of the other sports on TV like tennis, bowling, billiards, spelling bees, the NHL or fishing so the time when I feel withdrawals is when football ends and its only midseason basketball (until March Madness arrives which is a great month leading up to baseball starting again).

What a great series, congratulations Philadelphia. You can tell who wanted it more, it almost seems like the Rays thought they didn't deserve to be there.

Now, if the election would turn out the way I want it to, this will be a great week.

p.s. My fantasy football team is projected to win by 50 points this weekend.

Thanks to the Phantastic Philly win last night..we are out of the recession!  I spent hours looking for the gray World Series shirts and those darn black hats today. I saw people just throwing money away on anything Phillies...They We were fighting to spend our hard earned cash..talk about sharing the wealth..well that is exactly what we did. And like  fool (after waiting hours)  I rushed my kid's World Series shirts to school so they would be the only kids with the official shirts today. I know, I know.... What a Mom!!! ;D ;D ;D..Hey I was able to talk my oldest out of going to the parade..so it was well worth the $368.00 I spent on Philly junk!

I will probaby have to wait longer than Cubs fans to see another Pirates World Series win.  I grew up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s with the great Pirates teams before moving to Ohio.  I'm a Red's fan now, have only been waiting since 91.   I was a Vikings fan, suffered through 4 super bowl losses.  Being a Brown's Fan, I have never of course seen a Super bowl.
