Title: Bonibelle, You Flyered Up?
Post by: dax on April 11, 2008, 10:24:10 am
Know you're an Eagles fan.  You follow hockey?  Flyers start their Cup run tonight.  Of course, I expect it to be a short run.  Maybe they make it to the second round.  Doubt that they'll make it beyond that.  But given last year, I'll take it.

Oh Dax, I only made it to one game, and that was because my son was singing in a competition...the Flyers lost, but it really didn't matter since we were sitting in the VERY highest seats available and it was like watching a miniature circus...

Don't you think that we are all just Philly fans?  Yeah, I am much more passionate about the Eagles, but I would love to see the Flyers do something great...Do I wear the black and orange?..only at Halloween  ;D ;D ;)

Oh, yes, I do remember you posting about that a while back.

Back before I had kids, I had Flyers season tix to go along with my Eagles tix.  There were actually 4 of us who shared the Flyers tix so we each got 10 games per year.  Back then if you had season tix, you had the priviledge of buying additonal playoff tix.  The first year they opened the big house I was at all the home games when the Flyers made it to the Cup Finals.

For game-1 of the Cup Finals, I took a friend of mine who was confined to a wheelchair.  My seats were up in the nosebleeds, but not wheelchair accessible.  We went to the services desk and they hooked us up in the wheelchair section in the first level.  My seat for game-1 of the Cup finals was 12th row right on the blue line next to my buddy.  It was awesome!  Except that they lost that game and the next three.  >:(

Great seats!! Bummer for you they lost.  That game and the series, and I suppose, as well, they lost tonights' game!

But. my Pens won!!  Wooohooo ;D :o [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

It has been a while, probably since I was in nursing school, since I went to a game.  I hope to get back to one someday, but I might need to win the Powerball!!

Vinny,

Since this is a hockey thread maybe you folks can help me.  I listen to ESPN and they'll refer to the Montreal Canadians as the Avs (havs).  I could understand them doing so for the Avalanche but the Canadians?  Am I misunderstanding them (or is it misremembering for you Clemens haters) and they are refering to Colorado?  If it is the Canadians what does Avs refer to?

Thanks from a novice hockey fan.  This is beginning to be my favorite sports time of the year, when basketball ends.     (:-* nanna hey hey, kiss it good bye.)

I'm a big sports fan but hockey isn't my bag yet I know this one. It's the HABS as in "inhabitants", not Avs or havs...

French nicknames for the team include Les Canadiens, Le Bleu-Blanc-et-Rouge, La Sainte-Flanelle, Le Tricolore, Les Glorieux, Les Habitants and Le Grand Club. In English, the main nickname is the Habs [glow](coming from "Les Habitants")[/glow].

My favorite hockey player was traded to the Wings back in the 70's - Eddie Giacomin and the Rangers have been crap ever since!

Living so far from a border I think of it as being a little prohibitive - going through customs but I guess if you live that close then it becomes part of the commute.

And altough I really am not a sports fan at all - I have to say Philadelphia doesn't have any real sports teams!  ;) ;D

Speaking of sports ... my kids are sports fans and we tried to get tickets to a Yankee game for them to see the old stadium one last time - man was it hard. We had to go to an autherized "scalping" place to get tickets.

Pens swept the Sens.  Philly is up 3-2 in their run.  What could be next.....Hubby is figuring out who would play whom--looks like Gov. Rendell probably won't see an "all PA" playoff---yet...

Hoping and waiting... :)

I expect the Flyers to close out the Caps tomorrow night.  If the Bruins can manage to beat the Habs one more time, it'll be an all-PA series.  If the Habs win, it'll be Philly vs Montreal and the Pens vs the stinkin' Rangers.

I stand corrected.  If Boston beats Montreal, the Flyers would play the Rangers.  If Montreal beats Bostin, it would be Flyers vs Habs.  The all PA series will have to wait for the Conference Championship.  8-)

Does it get any better than game-7 overtime hockey?  Watched the OT in our bedroom.  Woke the wife up with a cheer when the Flyers scored the game-winner.  She said she fully expected to be woken up either via a cheer or a few choice words.  ;)

Not happy that the NHL makes the Flyers play game-1 vs the Habs tomorrow night.  With the Rangers & Pens sitting around for a few days, why couldn't they start their series on Thursday rather than Friday?

Oh well.  At least the Flyers made the second round.  That's really all I expected going into the playoffs.  But now that they're there, they may as well keep going, eh?  8-)

Thank you, NHL!  Teams get a nice rest to freshen up until the series starts on Friday.  Plus they play on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  I'm busy on Mondays & Wednesdays and would have only seen the 3rd periods if played those nights.  This way I'll get to see the Flyers kick the Penguins butts for all three periods!  8-)

OK, like I said, I get caught up in the excitment, but don't know much about teams, stats or whatever.(But I do have a Dan Briere bobble head ;D) So to give me some background info....Dax how did the Flyers do against the Penguins during the regular season? I know my husband has a friend at work from Pittsburg and they went back and forth with barbs all season, but never knew who came out ahead in regular season.  :-/

Dax how did the Flyers do against the Penguins during the regular season?

Flyers won the first four.  Penguins won the next three.  Flyers won the last game.  So the Flyers were 5-3 against the Pens.  That last game came at the end of the season.  Had Pitt won, the two teams would have met in the first round.  Supposedly, the Penguins tanked that game by sitting a couple star players because they didn't want to play the Flyers.

Of course, you can throw out the regular season because it means nothing at this point.  The Flyers were 0-4 vs the Canadians, and look how that turned out.  :)

Another useless stat, but I'll throw it out there for WWHT.  The Penguins have never beaten the Flyers in a playoff series.  8-)

As for the Redwings (or Stars), we'll worry about them when the time comes.

WHile we may not have the BEST record AT Philly, the Pens have Home Ice Advantage----heeheehee----C U AT THE IGLOO!!

Pens defense is a lot better than I had thought.  Flyers don't have any room to skate with the puck.

Hopefully, we win Thursday to avoid your broom.  Then we'll see what happens.  Just doesn't  look good for the orange 'n black guys.

Hey Chrisi!

We got our match up :)

I haven't seen enough Penguin games to attempt to make a prediction,  I just hope its a good series.

Zep and Term,

Your boys from Dallas put a good fight for a couple of games and had me nervous for a bit

In Canada--

Yeah, we weren't matched up at all during the regular season.  It will be interesting...

What's up with Detroit not selling out the games??  (I know, not your home town).  They had the best regular season record (I believe) and not selling out??  That's OK, we'll fill those seats!! ;D ;D ;D

Chrisi,

You know its strange, I am proud to be a Canadian but growing up around here makes me feel more connected to Detroit then to the rest of Canada.  Windsor ON is as close as you can get to a suburb of Detroit while staying in Canada.  I know a lot of people that live in Windsor but work in Detroit (a lot of them are nurses). In fact I can drive down Riverside drive in Windsor and see Joe Louis Arena (Red Wings), Comerica Park (Tigers) and Ford Field (Lions) all from this side of the river.

The sell out thing is 2 fold, one the economy in Detroit is awful , auto industry is way down and that has led to lower ticket sales.  Two, the media is falsely mistaken empty seats for unsold seats, if you look most of the empty seats are the "rich folk" seats down at ice level, for some reason these people are buying seasons tickets and then not going.

The finals are all sold out and tickets are going for around $500 for upper bowl now :o

I also wish the Detroit had played Pittsburgh during the regular season, it may have helped to predict the outcome.

ICE,

wow, you guys kicked our butts >:(!!  But, we figured we'll just get it out of the way, so be ready for us now!!

FUnny thing is, speaking of economy, is Pittsburgh's economy really is crap too, with most of the mills gone.   :'(

For yesterday's game, they opened up the Igloo and for $5 you could go and watch it on the big screen.  THe proceeds went to Mario Lemieux FOundation.  I couldn't watch it, we were at a wedding, but we kept track of the events.  Well, guess we'll C U 2sday!!

Chrisi,

I'll chock that game up to experience and youthful nervousness.  I fully expect the Pens to play a great series.  Now that the "Kids" all got the jitters out, lets play some hockey ;)

The Red Wings also open up the Joe so fans can watch on the scoreboard, they also donate the proceeds to charity.

I was at a wedding once years ago when we had to keep signalling the groom the hockey score with out his new wife knowing, it was quite a chore but a lot of fun

Good luck on Monday (but not too much)

You stinkin' Penguins and Redwings fans should start your won thread!  :D

This series is over!  Detroit may lose focus in one of the games in Pittsburgh and allow the Penguins to score a goal.  I'm not sure the Pens will win a game though.

Guess the west is the best.... and by a lot!  :o

Dax, didn't you say you were a sore loser??!! ;) ;)  kidding.

They are beating up on us, I think the whole "who's better in the playoffs" thing and many of the Pgh announcers thought Wings had more experience put a jinx on the Burgh.  Not to mention, the fire alarm at the hotel... >:(

Oh well.  I am still hoping for the Pens to wake up and shake it up!!

Hell  of a series, though.

That's just a little Detroit tradition, happened to the Devils, Flyers, Caps, Canes, Spurs, Jazz, Lakers, Cards, Padres, etc, etc,.  Strange though, its never happened to a NFL team ;D

Seriously, I am a huge Red Wing fan and I never expected the Wings to dominate like they have.  I have no doubt that the Pens will win a Stanley Cup, I just don't think it will be this year.

Sorry for stealing the thread Dax ;)

I read the fire alarm happens alot, Especially in PHILLY!!!! ;D

Funny, though, when it comes to basketball, my hubby is rooting for Pistons, cuz he hates the Celtics (his real team has been the Sixers).

Yeah, dax, I guess we did totally JACK your THREAD!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Canada--you are probably right, though I do hope we show up for game 3, a White out is expected in the stands.  (I always thought a black out would be cool!!).  Hey, the Pens weren't expected to get this far...

so I send a shout out to the Burgh---

Can you hockey fans pettition the commisioner (sp) and have him extend the Stanley Cup finals until past the end of the NBA season?  I've heard enough: Kobe, Wallace, Garnett, Lakers gibberish to last me forever.  When the Cup is over then there will be nothing in the way of 24 hour basketball.  (Maybe a Triple Crown winner will put a temporary stop to it)

I really don't care who wins the Cup, just have it go the best of 53 games.  Better yet, have basketball play-offs be the best of one game like the beloved (sic) BCS.

[size=56]Go Hockey.....[/size]

Hey, WWHT!  You awake yet this morning?  ;)

What a great game!  Only caught about the last 12 minutes of regulation and then all 3 OTs.  That 3rd period was all Detroit (as was most of the OTs).  Couldn't believe the Pens tied it with 35 seconds remaining, and then won.

I'm Awake!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I missed much of the game, my son graduated last night, but I caught most of the third period and the OT's, but I was falling asleep on the third OT  :-[.  Until the Pens pulled Fleury and that last 1:30 of the 3rd pd, it was all Wings.  Then, BAM!!  If you had to pick an MVP for the Pens (I'm not rubbing salt in an old wound...) who would you pick??  ME and my hubby pick FLeury.  He has kept them in the game all along.  Hell, I think most of the game last night, the Wings were double our shots on goal.

It was a H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS of a game, though!!  Hubby had to take an extra blood pressure pill! ;)

Sorry, Chrisi!  :D

But the Penguins did fight to the end.  And I mean the very end!  What a hectic last two minutes (and seconds)!

A great Cup Final!

It's OK, dax, we got seriously beat. :o  Of course, I had to work nights, and missed 99.9% of the game, but the good thing about ICU and ventilators, is medicate, then watch the game while your caring for your patient!!  I did catch that last 2 seconds, OMG!!!  We were going to pass out nitroglycerines like Halloween candy!!!

Well, guess we'll all see what happens next year!!  Till then, it is NASCAR and then the Steelers!!  And, the Pittsburgh Passion, are undefeated AGAIN this year!!

C U then!!

Hey, Chrisi.  Just saw in the paper that the Penguins minor league AHL team from WilkesBarre-Scranton lost in the Calder Cup Finals as well.  In case you missed it.....  ;)

I did miss that,  getting caught up on things.

Well, I am guessing In Canada will be happy now, they got Marion Hossa for $7.4 mil!!! :o :'( :'(

Ruutu goes to Ottawa.  What's happening here?? :(

Yes Mame, very Happy Now :)  Hossa is a great fit with the Wings!  Conklin will be a good back up and I am really glad they resigned Stuart.  Supposedly Hossa even took less money to come to Detroit over some other offers, that taste of the finals must have really had an effect on him.  Wings management told him there is no way they will pay him more then Lidstrom and he said OK.  Happy, happy, joy, joy!!(shameless Ren and Stimpy plug)

The Stanley Cup may just have to keep the same address for another year ;)

ICE--I am worried about my team.  My hubby said Hossa was actually offered more by the Pens, but wants out of Pittsburgh.

I guess not everyone can be like Mario and stick with us through thick and thin!

Did I miss something--Conklin a good back up??  Did he get traded?  My bad, just asked hubby--he did come to yinz.  He wasn't sure if it was Detroit or not, but I just told him you confirmed that.

WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!   :'(

PS--You are probably right about Lord Stanley, maybe he's looking for a new ride out there in Detroit.  But, who knows....

Looks like we'll be seeing you twice this year--once at the Joe, once in the Igloo.  We've had a lot of restructuring, so I guess only time will tell how my Pens do.  ::) ::)
