Title: Watkins Main Pump question.
Post by: Mr._Bubbles on July 09, 2008, 02:41:10 pm
I noticed the main pump on my Bengal HP only has two front screws holding it to the base of the spa.  The back of the pump only has 2 holes, no screws.  The pump does twist a little when you turn it on high.  Is this correct or do I have two missing screws?

Thanks!

Bump.....Anyone know if this is right?  Just to be clear, the screws are on one side of the pump that faces the front of the spa.

Thanks Again

That is correct. Some of the models have two, others four. It depends upon the plumbing - if the plumbing is strong enough to hold things in place during shipping, two is fine. I have shipped used tubs with no screws holding the pump down, and the plumbing did the job just fine - but of course on a new tub they want to secure it sufficiently so it doesn't move around while being shipped and flipped around.

The screws are mostly just there for shipping and it probably only has 2 because its difficult to get to all four to install them. Besides, if you ever go to change the pump you'll wish there were no screws on the backside when there is little room to maneuver.

Thanks, guys.  I thought my pump was a little loud and turned it on with the access door off to check it.  When I seen the pump twist a little, I went to check the screws and seen the back two missing.

So you have a few loose screws?

If the pump is vibrating you can put a little piece of foam underneath the back to help absorb some of the noise.  Usually just tightening the two screws in the front will help.
