Title: Lowe's 60 Amp Spa Disconnect Recalled
Post by: Swell-Tub on May 20, 2008, 09:17:04 pm
I went to Lowe's this evening to purchase a 60 Amp GFCI Spa Disconnect Panel. Lowe's is pulling them from the shelves and replacing them with 50 Amp Spa Disconnect Panels. All they could tell me is that the manufacturer are buying back all that are on the shelf. They are made by Midwest Electric Products Inc. and the part number is UG412RMW260P. I was able to travel up to the last Lowe's in Northern Las Vegas and buy one before they pulled them. I need 60 amp service if I want to run both pumps and the heater at the same time.

Anyone know what's wrong with them?

There are zoning regulations in many towns that require 60amp ONLY be installed by qualified electricians.  Therefore the only reason they may be pulling them is to stay within the confines of those regulations.  I do know that around here, we did not have the abliity to buy a 60amp GFCI from any of the large stores (Home Depot nor Lowes) when I did mine.

Swell,
Thats the same panel I used on my j-480 and I also went with the 60 amp configuration, works fine and it also lets you add a smaller gfi for a 110 outlet.

My electrician sent me to Lowe's because he couldn't find any thing larger than a 50 amp in the electric supply houses. Go figure.

I installed the Lowes (Midwest) 60 amp GFCI for my Hamilton. Of course I had a certified electrician (Friend) come over and triple-check everything before firing up. No problems whatsoerver.

Yes, evidently the Gfci breakers become faulty within 2 years; big problems!
