Hi everyone I'm new to this site as well as to hot tubs, my question, I've boiled it down to two hot tubs the sundance maxxus and the jacuzzi j 480, wet tested both and I like both a lot with the J 480 slightly more as far as appearance and Jacuzzi name go, I like the maxxus for it's size I don't like to feel cramped and I thought it performed just as well as the J 480 for it's size, I could get the J 480 07 for 11199.00 no ad ons a or the maxxus 07 for 9999.00 no ad ons I'm leaning towards the maxxus just for it's size, I know I'm missing probably a lot, would it be possible to get some of your thoughts on these two tubs and no matter what I go with am I getting a good deal or should I try to get them to go lower here in Ohio, Thanks, Steve

I wet tested both and you will not go wrong with either one. Sundance has a air blower and Jacuzzi adds air to the jets. They are made by the same company and share many of the same parts. Which dealer will service you best during and after the sale? IMHO the Jacuzzi has a softer more relaxing jet, the Maxxus has stronger more forceful jets. I did like the J-480 raised waterfalls and when you sit under them you get a great lower back massage. Anyway, good luck with your decision

Steve--just a stone's throw away here in PA, we were given a price of $10,500 for a J470 WITH stereo/lights/delivery/ozonator... being it is a sister tub to the 480 ( no lounger) I think you could get a WAY better price.
As for Maxxus, I never sat in it, almost did, but it wasn't what we wanted. So, I can't comment on it. Seems $9999 is an unreal price.
I would boil it down to WHICH ONE IS THE BETTER DEALER?!! But, work on that 480 price or have some add=ons thrown in for that price.
Just my $.02

I wet tested both the Maxxus and the J480 when I was searching a year ago. Both were great and you can't go wrong either way. We ended up going with the Sundance Cameo because we didn't really need a tub as big as the Maxxus and because the Jacuzzi dealer didn't have the best reputation.
You should be able to do a lot better on that J480 price. I think we were quoted $10,500 with steps, ozonator, lifter and start-up chemicals. I'm located outside of Philly.

As far as the Jacuzzi name, quality, etc...both spas are built by the same company at the same plant. Both are excellent choises. It never hurts to try to squeeze the price down to get get your best deal.

We got paid 10k for our 2008 J480 including steps, ozonator and lift. It came with a bad circuit board (see J480 = junk?? post). Once they replaced the board we have completely enjoyed this tub. The 2008 model has a couple of different (better in my opinion) jets than the 2007 model.
I don't know anything about the Maxxus tub but we would certainly buy the 480 again (even with the initial problem). And you can do much better on the price. FYI...we purchased in Green Bay WI.

The one thing I'm not a big fan of in the Maxxus is that it is very large yet it TRULY only accommodates 4 people but I guess I just like a more open spa (not a knock on the spa as much as its a reflection on my taste). Because of its layout I think it’s a perfect example of a spa that should be wet tested. Now those 4 seats have plenty of room so as long as you're not expecting to have 6 or so people in it, it passed your wet test, you’re leaning in that direction and feel you did your due diligence I say go with your gut and get it. I think you've done your homework and don't think you're missing anything.
-
I wet tested both and you will not go wrong with either one. Sundance has a air blower and Jacuzzi adds air to the jets.
The blower is a unit that adds air to separate air-only jets but the Sundance (and all spas for that matter) also add air to the water jets through a venturi effect, that’s not a feature unique to Jacuzzi.
-
While I like the Sundance, it truly is a big 4 person spa. But at that price would be hard to beat, on the other hand thats a lot of water to heat, and do you need something that large? As far as price goes, talk to the Jacuzzi guy and see what he's willing to do for you. Sounds like the Maxxus might be an 07/floor madel he is trying to sell?
Either really would be a good choice.

Now that's what I call a deal!!!!!

I could get the J 480 07 for 11199.00 no ad ons
Welcome to the forum Steve. As a Jacuzzi owner myself and by having a close relationship with some of the people at my dealership, I can assure you that there is a significant amount of wiggle room on that '07 J-480. I think $10K with a lifter, steps, and start-up kit would be a fair deal for both parties.
-
JJ can help us here. I think something is different between the jet setup in the 2007 vs. the 2008 models. So try both or get a better price on the 2007.
Scott ;)
-
Another idea is have Fred ship you a new 2008 J-480 for free. They are paying him 10K for each new one he takes. ;D ;D ;D
-
The difference between an 07 and 08 is more bells and whistle type stuff. As far as price goes,it depends what the dealer has into the spa. To say their is significant wiggle room may not be true. Some of the deals here have been very good, but those deals wouldn't fly with us to some extent.
Heres some wiggle room for you. ;D

I've had a Maxxus for 2 1/2 years now. While it may be larger than some like, I LOVE the size and being able to move around without tripping over other people's feet/legs. I doubt that the difference in cost to heat a 670 gallon tub is substantially greater than that to heat a 570 gallon tub in the grand scheme of things....and I think that the Maxxus is fine with 6 people...it has 3 corner seats, a lounger, and 2 cool down seats (just like the J-480, I believe). I've had 6 people in the tub in comfort many times. I suppose that if it were configured to seat 8, that would be more economical use of space for some...I like the luxury of the extra room with the layout as it is! It boils down to which you prefer...as others have said, they are both under the same ownership / manufacturer (different assembly lines last I heard) with the Sundance being marketed as the premiere line (at least by the dealers I spoke to...no offence to Jacuzzi owners!!) at the time I purchased. Go with your gut. I'm certain that you will be thrilled with the new tub either way. Best of luck with your decision :)

Steve,
The picture of your Maxxus is outstanding. That is a very nice surround. I loved my Maxxus wet test.
Scott :)

Thanks Scott...thatsreallymightykindaya ;D . I'd prefer it wide open, but I hate wind, so the glass walls and pergola roof let me keep my view with a calmer setting.
Cheers!

That was a pretty sweet deal I got.... 8-) After the way they treated me maybe they should have paid me.
Thanks for proof reading for me. That's what I get for trying to post something quickly during lunch.

WOW!! this forum is great I thank each and every one of you for your input, I will be making a decision tomorrow I've already started to cut the deck for the pad, my wife will kill me if I don't have a tub soon, little backwards I know, but really thanks for all the help i'll let you know what my decision is and how it turns out. Thanks, Steve

I "think" the Maxxus may even have some add ons for exercising in the tub (at least I think it did when I was looking). The $9999.99 price seems low if that is the SunDance Maxxus and would be a great buy.
-
AFAIK the exercise feature was on the pre-2005 model...although I certainly could be wrong. One other thing I really enjoy about the size of the Maxxus: When I'm tubbin' alone, I can turn off all of the jets and the waterfall, and float on my back without touching the sides (sometimes I give myself a gentle push from one side to the other with my fingertips) for an "altered states" style sensory deprivation experience 8-) (I do keep the cover open!) ...of course this requires having the correct body mass index ;D ...

You have chosen wise grasshopper. Soak long and often....
Congrats,
Scott ;)

Congrats on the spa!! Hard to beat that spa with the price you got. May have missed it but what color combo did you go with??
-
Hi, the spa is twilight and birch that's all they had left but it actually looks pretty good. Thanks, Steve

Believe it or not that ability was one of my PRIMARY objectives when I bought my tub as well. I can do it in my Jacuzzi J-370. It's 91x91 square and 480 gallons and I am 5'10" tall
-
So my J-470 is 91 X 91 and I'm 6'0" so can I do the altered mind float?
Scott :-?
-
That is an awesome deal!!!
I'll say! If I could have gotten that price, I'd have a Maxxus in my backyard rather than a Cameo.
BTW, what color shell/skirt?
