Title: AND THE WINNER IS .........
Post by: Spatini on April 11, 2008, 11:46:08 pm
So you have all followed my ongoing saga , seems to be like most here ,where do I start ,which is best , etc etc etc  , as we all know pick a solid set of companies , much of that info can be gleaned here, narrow down to your top one or two wet test, wet test , wet test , pull out all your hair wet test some more , plead for help and the finally pull trigger, well I had it down to two the Artesian Piper Geln and The Jacuzzi j-480 , after much back and forth I finally went with the , drumroll please  ............. Jacuzzi J-480 , for me it had everything I wanted , was quality built and priced within reason leaving the rest of the budget for some serious Spascaping in the backyard. Now I need to prepare for the next three to four weeks and get the basics done out back. Thanks to all who helped me through this ordeal , it was fun and terrible all at the same time ,very time consuming , it also helped me learn tons about something of which I knew basically nothing before , I am now a bonafide rank pro - amature . Again thanks for your patience and guidance through this time. Are there any SA meetings one can attend here ( SPA Anonymous ) . HI all , my name is SPATINI ! :o :o

I'm leaning towards a Jacuzzi J-470. I know what you mean, quality, price and reputation. JJ will be so proud....

JJ will be happy to hear that we want to look at the 470 ourselves.  Just waiting (and waiting...) for the JQZ dealer to get one in.  They had a 480.  I think Tom is just going to have to get a pillow (extra) for a head rest no matter what spa.  Still have 2 more to try. (not to mention the 470)

Interestingly, hubby is watching DIY and they are building a deck and pergola around a JQZ  tub that looks like a 470!!

We ran across 1/2 of PA to see the Artesian dealer tonight--nice tubs, hard to say--if the dealer offers a good enough deal, I am still going to pay exorbitant delivery fees and not to mention set up and warranty/service issues...

My saga continues.

Glad Fred and Spatini have concluded this portion.

Swell-Tub--how about you guys--470 as well??

Keep us all posted, SA"s out there.  ;D ;D I am looking for a sponsor myself.  Next meeting is... :o 8-) ::)

Chrisi, Look at you your post number is really climbing.

I really like the Jacuzzi the best so far but I worry about the brand new dealer here in Vegas. If I were to buy based on the best support it would be the local Sundance dealer. BullFrog has been very supportive via internet and phone. I'm very impressed by BullFrog International's attitude. I also like the idea that you can redesign you spa by changing out the jet packs.

Yeah, Scott, I unfortunately have spent more time BS'ng about tubs than testing them, since the tubs we want to wet test and see aren't available yet.  Should expect some this week, though.

If bullfrog would make "leg jet packs" or "foot jet packs", I'd be sold!!! ;D

I'm told that the BullFrog 682 has leg and foot jets.

I would have to check again, I thought it was more like a lounger to get the leg and foot jets??

Now you have me curious again... :-/

Scott, I did just check--they just weren't quite what I was looking for, jet wise.  I suppose, it isn't completely ruled out until all others are ruled out, but I also like the fact that some tubs' seats also have some hip jets as well.  Those jet packs are cool, though, and the nice feature is being able to change them out.

Once I have seen some other spas...  it just gets overwhelming!!!

hey chad....I have a question

i am considering having some floor work done
and i need your help in what a particular part
of tile/marble flooring is called.

when you get a marble/tile floor there are sometimes
little smaller accents placed in between the larger tiles

what are the smaller pieces called?

the term "medallion" seems to be mostly
the larger mosaic type accent

i have found a few of what I am talking about
searching under the term "inserts"

but what are the smaller emblems called that
are made out of metal?....i want to find a source
for a wide variety of "accent emblems" is what i call them

they would be something like the darker tiles in the pic
below but would be made of a metal material

mine would be used with larger tiles and not be
quite as "busy" looking as this pic

Spantini, Great choice!!!!  ;)

I'm sitting at my kitchen table looking at the fresh 4 or 5 inches of snow on my deck wondering if we'll ever be able to add on our hot tub deck.  Our tub should be here within two weeks.  I plowed the grass where the tube is going... I'm sure spring will be in full force soon!?!?!?!?!?

In His Peace,
Fred

I love all four seasons...but this year winter lasted a bit long, well more than just a bit more like way.

60s and 70s sounds great.  Have a great day at the track.

"Saved" yeah I hate both extremes
Fall is my favorite time of year
probably the weather and because of football
the summers are pretty rough here in Dallas
basically July, August, Sept are hotter than hell
not much tubbing in those months
of course one good thing about the hot temps
is the women wear less clothes!

We will be at 91 degrees tomorrow here in Las Vegas. In July and August we get near 120 degrees. The good thing about Vegas is that the women wear less clothes all year long....

OK Jim, I'm going to take a chance here. Since Sundance isn't defended on this forum much, let me ask something. What are the major differences between the Sundance Optima and the Jacuzzi J-470? They appear to be very much the same. Unless I have a BullFrog moment or something I think I'm going to buy either the Optima or 470.

I think every other dealer around my territory has carried Jacuzzi at some point.  They just carry something different now.

Artesian, ALPS, Beachcomber, Catalina, Coleman, Dynasty, CalSpa, Nordic, Marquis, Dimension 1, Sundance, Sunbelt, Seven Seas, Seahorse, Aqua Fina, Emerald, Vita, Master, Leisure Bay, and a half dozen others I can't remember have all paraded through here once or more times in the 9 years I've been here.

The only ones still here are Sunbelt, Dynasty, and Bullfrog.  I'm sure all of the others will pass through again sometime and their customers might be able to get their spas repaired.....eventually. :D

BTW Spatini, congratulations on your new spa.  It sounds like you got a great deal! :)

Price wise they are probably close?? The filtration is different as far as filters go, they do use the exact same high flow circ pump as far as I know, same with the main pumps.  I like the jets better in the J-470 specially the RX jets, and the large power pro MX jets, the optima has a blower no big deal their, most people quit using them after a period of time they become noisy, the diverter in the optima has had problems with being overly loud.  The Optima is larger as far as size goes, I think you could fit a couple more people in it?  The Optima doesnt have an ABS pan but then you are in Nevada, so not a real issue with the elements.

I will add in the looks and lights dept the J-470 kicks a-- over the Optima but looks are not everything.

All in all the Optima would be my 2nd choice in a spa for me.  Hot springs 3rd I have sat in a few just not that impressed with the feel, but the quality of all, are great.

Either would be a good choice, what did the wet test do for you???

Well I only wet tested the Sundance Maxxus, Jacuzzi 465 (I can't believe Jacuzzi doesn't redesign this tub), and the Jacuzzi 345. I can't get a wet test on the J-470, Optima, or HS Grandee without leaving the state. I might wet test a Bullfrog 682 in Salt Lake City, UT next week. I'm ready to buy and have the backyard ready to go. Electrician is even on standby with a 60 amp breaker and everything else.

I park at the Bellagio garage every day as my work site is the MGM City Center that is being built next to it. We look down on the pool at the Monte Carlo and that side of the building is ahead of schedule. It seems the guys like to work on that wing of the tower best  ;).

Jim I would buy from you if you deliver here in Las Vegas. The local Jacuzzi dealer doesn't service what they sell anyway. They are really nice people but turn warranty issues over to a local spa repair company. That continues to be my concern, Sundance and Hot Springs are the only dealers who service what they sell.

Congrats on your spa purchase.  I too love the J-480 as it's a wonderful tub.  However, I absolutely hate the cover it needs.  We will never build replacements for that spa and I doubt many (if any) other manufacturers will either.  You'll be locked into buying your replacement cover from the Jacuzzi dealer so start saving now for your next cover.

Shaamus,

That was my biggest concern when we bought our 480.  However, nothing else compared to it that we tested.  So for us, the concern was out weighed by it being the tub that was the best one for us.  Hey Jacuzzi Jim how much is a replacement cover for a 480?

Thanks,
Fred

Got a message the 470's will be in this week and should be ready for wet testing this weekend.

Chrisi,

If you wet test the J470 this weekend get ready for an awesome massage from the RX jets....  Divert all the power of that side of the tub to them and they will massage so good it will almost hurt.  Kind of like that deep muscle massage that you say oh that hurts but keep doing it.  It will work the knots out.  And the great thing is you can adjust the power so it's that strong or you back it off so it's just relaxing.  Those jets were the best ones we came accross in all of our testing.

Good luck,
Fred

Chrisi,
I think you will really like the 470 , I looked at the 470 also and thought it was great , but as you know by now I bought the 480, the lounge was really great and it doesnt take up a whole side like most lounges do in fact its more like a reclineing chair , I still got all the jets of the 470's four corner seats, plus 2 more corner seat calf jets and the calf and palm jets of the luonge , i did lose the small single jet semi cool down lookin seat where your legs go in the lounge, but my wife do love that lounge . In the 470 you will be able to move around a bit more freely , so either way you should be impressed.

Chrisi,
I can't wait for your report on the J-470.

I keep bouncing back and forth between the J-470 and the Sundance Optima. I like the Jacuzzi dealer and tub the best except they don't service what they sell. The Sundance dealer has a large ego and says he doesn't need to deal on price because he has the best product and he services what he sells. I talked to the Jacuzzi dealer today and she is a very nice person who wants to deal on a tub. She sold 3 Jacuzzi's last week. Two J-345's and a J-465.

Hey, I can't wait for the testing to report on!!

Scott, it sounds like the Jacuzzi dealer still may have your best interest at heart and is not arrogant.  I hate arrogant people.   I wonder if many of the dealers in general also subcontract out for service techs, I know I have seen some service techs advertise.  I would re-inquire about the service tech used, and check them out.  Have you checked the BBB or even the local Yellow pages for ratings??  Whether or not some people have much faith in those organizations, I think it still provides an idea on how many complaints, and how the company handled them, and it will include what the customer response was.  I know it is generalized, but still an idea!!

Good luck with your decision.  I am hoping that some time this week we'll have an idea between Jacuzzi, Arctic, and Dynasty.  Still thinking about the Clearwater Orlando, but again, too many excuses from the salesperson for me to be comfortable with.  And, still no wet test on that (one of the excuses!) :'( :-/

I'll keep you all posted!! ;D ;D ;D :)

The Jacuzzi dealer is the largest and oldest pool dealer here in Las Vegas and has a good reputation. They are brand new to the portable spa business however. A mother and son run the Jacuzzi part of the business. The son also does renovations of existing pools. They both are very nice down to earth people with no sales pressure or wild claims. They also won't talk about the competition which is a class act in my opinion. I would really like to do business with these folks but do worry about support after the sale. Good advice I will checkout the service compnay.

Swell .
like Chrisi I wonder how many dealers do subcontract out thier service, and hopefully with a brand as solid as Jacuzzi ,that issue wont even come into play, I just cant imagine a solid company needs to have a lot of service calls on any of thier tubs , maybe a lemon every once in a blue moon but normally I hope it is a rare thing to need a service call.

Alright guys I am back!  :D  Spent two wonderful days in Vancouver B.C. for Jacuzzi sales training, a lot of great stuff as always!!  But my arse is sore form sitting on a lightly padded hotel chair from 8am to 6pm with 2 breaks and a lunch.  :'(   Oh well, I popped a vicodin, jumped in the Jacuzzi when I got back last night and all is well.  ;)
The hotel spa smelled like a chopped up bromine tablet, and it looked like chit, I think it was a Hot springs. ;D  Kidding of course!! :P But it did stink pretty bad, needless to say no dealers were using it.

All the others in the class were Canadian, and only been in the biz, about 3 or less years, one guy from Victoria is a Sundance and Jacuzzi dealer and does very well he's been in the biz about 20 years.  Some here may know him??   The instructor  and the guy I was with were the only 3 Americans there. They talk funny up there!!  A    ;D

Doesn't look to hard to catch up.

"You smell that? Do you smell that? Bromine, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of bromine in the hot tub."
