Hey all I wanted to use my 4 yaer old Jacuzzi J-355 spa. for the big snow storm tonight...
Its 27 degrees outside........
Anyway I put some chemicals into it so I would be ready later tonight...
The temp on the spa said 103 and the spa was filled up....
Anyway I was about to close the cover and I seen most of my water in the spa gone...
I would say more the 3/4 of it is gone....
I was looking around my spa to see if there was any leaks around my spa......
I could not see any water going into the snow thats near the spa off of the
concrete slab....You would thing 300 gallions I would see some on my slab or melting the snow off of the slab.....
Its funny losing so much water within 2 hours.......
Do you good folks think I have a leak lol...
Maybe a pipe broke inside or maybe the shell is cracked?????
Tomorrow I will look to see if I have a crack since its a tad dark....
I hate to shut my spa off in the high 20s outside tonight with no power on........JohnnyT

NO, please, if you want to continue to use this forum...
DO NOT POST NUDE PICTURES...I have cleaned up this thread and expect it to stay this way >:(

Since you know how these forums work, you must realize I am watching everything that you are doing on here >:(

I really doubt the shell is cracked! its possible if cold enough, something might have froze, but if the spa was running that shouldn't happen either. If your spa shut off due to a power outage and the circ pump quit running the water may have syphoned out through the ozonator?? Was your breaker tripped??
Worse case put a droplight in the equipment area if really cold, call your dealer.

I would expect the ozone check valve would stop any siphoning and even if it did send water back through the ozonator that would be a VERY slow drain. It sounds like he either had a major leak/drain or one of his neighbors drained it on him when he was out to get even for the hot tub parties.
-
You are right I missed the 2 hr thing, if it had been a day or so then I would suspect the syphon, and older Jacuzzi check valves have been know to fail.

I'm not sure who posted the nude pic earlier but I think it should be sent to Serjical per his request!!!

I'd suggest covering his keyboard with a drop cloth before opening the message.

I would also suggest having a large empty bucket within reach.
:P :P :P

Yep within 2 hours it look like I lost more the 4/5s of the water...
I felt I better shut the power off at the box since I lost so much water...
I tryed to call my repair guy but they are off on Weds....
Glad the weather is getting warmer out with just icy rain....
But its funny, you would think losing at least 300 gallions of water there would be no snow near the spa off of the slab with all that hot water that came out...
I guess the tech will find the leak,,,,,,wondering how long it will take him to find it.....Thanks...JT

Refill it and look to see if you find it.

I would refill it also and take the front panel off and have a look see, another thoought could be a bad pump seal??

Make sure your drain cap is secure.

This is the same nitwit Clownshoes (Not the legit user we have with a similar name. )I banned his IP, and he got another. I've banned the addresses he registers with. None of these will keep out a determined person. I'm working with his ISP. His ISP is a big multistate one (not in Colorado) For now, I have blocked out a range of ISPs that should keep him out for a while. The first time he registered he used a yahoo email account that anyone can create, but this time he made the mistake of registering with a email account that had to be created at his own ISP. His name, or someone who loaned him theirs appears to have a last name of Flynn.

Nice going there boss, and kudos to Bonibelle!

Geeee I am going to have to get the repair done by the company that sold me the jacuzzi.Might as well let them look for the leak or crack......I hope its a crack so they have to replace it lol...
Yea but would you think 300 gallions would show up somewhere?
No leaks on my slab or no melted snow.....It makes me wonder...Thanks allll...JT
-
If its only 4 years old its still under warranty, let the dealer handle it!
-
Nice going there boss, and kudos to Bonibelle!
Agreed, its great having her around, she can be on more during the daytime than I can.
-
Geeeeee the guy came by today while I was not at home to fix the spa..
I came home and on the invoice it said that my spa was about half full
and he could not find a leak at all.....
So I was charged the $100 service call and another one for $60 for labor.......
I don't mind paying the $100 but what was I surposed to do when I see half or more of the water gone????I am calling the owner tomorrow about the labor........
But the spa is not leaking now any w wondering why or how can I lose about 300 gallions with 2 hours and not see any leakage around the spa?????Hummmm JT
-
Well for one, the service tech or you should have filled it? If you did have it filled and the water ran out, the service guy should have done something other than leave you a bill?? ::) Or your faucets are all wrapped up and or the hose is frozen?
A quick way to see if its leaking water is to open the right or left side of the panel just enough to get your hand to a corner, stick your hand down in the corner and touch the btm of the abs pan if there is a couple inches of water there its leaking. I would call the dealer and talk to them either way!!
Sounds like a lazy tech!!!!
-
Yep you are right...
Jacuzzi told me to leave it as it is and put a space heater under it....
But the tech filled my spa up with water and I guess there was no leaks as the invoice says.
I have been useing Chemicals for the last hour and still no leaks....
Yes I could have took the side panel off,,,,but if I lost 300 gallions of water I think it would have been leaking out on all sides of the spa....
Whaty annoys me is a labor charge of $60 above the $100 service call....I will call the owner tomorrow...I am sure he will wave that charge, well I hope he does lol.....JT
-
Make sure your drain cap is secure.
-
drain cap is secure.......
I have been useing it without any problems for 4 years....
If drain cap was not secure I would see melting snow off of my slab......
I just don't get it,,,,,,the freaking spa is working great now and not losing any water at all.......
Nothing has changed, tech came over and saw there was no leak.....
But I still feel I did the right thing,,,,If it looks like a big leak ,shutttttt off the spa...
Maybe I am wrong lol.....Thanks JT
-
Johnny, are you sure your not the butt of a practical joke? Like removing water at night?
Can't think of anything else....
-
Geeeee I would say you might have been right....
The family that lives next to me is a acre away lol
And as I said the water was lost between 4pm and 6pm,enough daylight lol.
Just hope this does not happen again,I am afraid if it happened once, that it might happen again.....Thanks for yea good advise............JT

Man, they must really have a issue with you to do that in daylight when they're not even that close!!!

Ah, why would the dealer be expected to "waive" a charge for an incident that wasn't an "incident" after all? He still had to incure the cost of sending a tech out to investigate it at YOUR request. If it ain't broke, there's no reason the dealer should have to pay for YOUR error. It does sound like some one was "messing" with you and it cost you $160 bucks to discover that. I'd try toi figure it out and either get them to pay me back for their prank or find anther way (i.e. photos of their wife superimposed at a hotel...) to get "even".
I can appreciate a fellow Jacuzzi guy but there is no reason the dealer should have to pay (i.e. incur cost) due to a non-warranty issue
-
I am not complaining about the $100 service call.
I am complaining about the $60 Labor charge.....
NOBODY took the water out of my spa(guess that might have been a joke}
The water vanished somewhere.
I mean when you see half or more of the water is gone I think most will shut
off the power witch I did.
So the repair guy could not find a problem,,,But I do feel that it might happen again.
300 gallions just don't get up and walk away.
Its just very strange that I enjoy the spa last night and today water level is good..
I called the book keeper of the spa company where I bought the spa from and she will she what she can do about the $60...
I even told her to say that it was a Flo switch if she had too, since they don't sell jacuzzis anymore but they still repair the ones that they sold.....I even told her that I have been buy my spa and pool products from them for over 4 years, lets see if they wave the $60 labor.............................................JT
-
I'm telling ya, just open the front panel and see if there is any water in the pan, it is designed to drain out though 4 small holes in the btm but it does take a bit to do.
-
Well, half the mystery is solved:
We know where the $160.00 went.
Now we just need to find that 300 gallons of water.
....possible UFO re-fueling? :)

How high was the water? Were the air controls open or closed?
Very rarely, if the suction for the air controls hangs down low, and the water is too high, the tub can actually syphon itself.

But Serj, if the water had syphoned out of the tub, it would have been frozen on the concrete pad (or at least some of it). The Poster says the water disappeared.
My bet is still on a UFO re-fueling incident. Or a thirsty Chupacabra. ;)
JohnnyThunders: did you ever take the front off your equipment compartment as Jacuzzi Jim suggested? Was it dry inside?

He said he lost 300 gallons in 2 hrs so it couldn't be something like that. I'm still betting on the neighbor screwing with him.

paranormal....

It takes about 45 minutes to completely drain a large tub with a garden hose. Of course it could lose 300 gallons in two hours. We have had people in Optimas with the water too high sit right back against the main therapy seat (the one with 14 jets) and while they were sitting in it, it drained out.
-
This same thing happened to me (although it was a slower leak).
It was because rats had chewed their way in through the bottom of the cabinet and chewed holes in the pipes. I couldn't see the actual lead itself by taking off the panels, only see that water was indeed coming out of the bottom when I filled it up.
That's what sent me on a search for a new tub....and when the old one was hauled away, I got to see all the holes the rats had chewed.
-
Josh,
What kind of tub did you have? Jacuzzi, Marquis and others have a bottom that prevents rats from chewing and gaining access to your tub. It is small things like this that help to make the tubs that most consider to be industry leaders distinguish themselves from the lesser recommend makers.

Sound like there great tubs for the getto.

I had a similiar thing happen once. I don't know if the large water loss was in the span of 2 hours or not. We used the tub about 10pm and went out early the next am for another soak and stepped into the spa before we realized almost all the water was gone. We didn't see any puddles of water around the spa but we noticed some drops on a nearby lounge chair and on the outside of the shell on one side near the top. I immediately filled the spa back up and it didn't lose a drop of water and never has since. The only logical thing we can figure is that the water level got a little too low and the highest jet started shooting water out of the spa between the cover and the shell. It's a rotating jet. It must have continued to do this until it got so low that the spa shut off. I can't prove that's what happened, but that's what we think.
-
I have been reading along with this one for a while. Somehow, I don't think we are getting the whole story (no offence intended johnnythunders) but 300 gallons of water just does not disappear. In 2 hours johnny said his tub went from full to half gone without leaving any sign of water anywhere.
NOT POSSIBLE
For those of you who said to check inside the equipment area, do you really believe the ABS pan would hold 300 gallons without leaking some of it anywhere. There should be some sign of water around the base of the tub.
This has to be the result of a practical joke or maybe it was aliens

Theses are my thoughts on the other forum about this.

CORRECT (unless on a gravel pad w/ no ABS pan)

It would not hold that much. It might be hard to see - but it would go somewhere (lowest unobstructed point).
This has to be the result of a practical joke or maybe it was aliens
:-? I do have a penchant for UFO tales.
-
Geeeeee only thing that could take 300 or more gallions is a UFO...
For someone to pump that much water out soooo fast,,they would have need a pump and I would have heard it.....
Nope it was a concrete slab...didnot look like a river near my spa when I looked.
And yes the spa was filled when I put the chemicals in.
about 2 hours later 3/4 of the water was gone, water was just a tad above the foot wells.....
No signs of a leak...........
Its been a week since the tech saw no leak,,,and the spa is still full....
And I was not smash at the time,,,,I would know if if put chemicals into a emtry spa.....................Thanks......JT
-
JT, keep in mind the spa STOPPED leaking at the level you found the water at,"just a tad above the foot well". That is the level where the water came out and went somewhere, because when it got to THAT level the leak stopped, and the spa "fixed itself".
It could be a "venturri" leak, where water escapes through the air drawing (venturri) lines that are attached to the jets. The real mystry is what happened to 300 gallons in 2 hours. Impossible to not show some sign of water at the base.
-
Thanks Clover
But when I saw the water was almost gone,I think the spa was running ,but I can be wrong. But I did shut the power off without screwing up the spa more then that was.
I just really don't want to knock my brains anymore thinking where 300 PLUS gallions could have gone without showing a river anywhere near my spa within 2 hours......
Thanks...But I do know I had a full spa when I put the Chemicals in.......JT
-
JT,
I think it is one of those weird things that happen, that we just never figure how or why. And if we get lucky and do it is usually so simple and seems like it would have been easy to see in the first place. The good of it is that I guess you don't really have a problem and that is in the end the best out come anyway.
