I have found that I really like the 104 degree setting. It's now my fave temp. Leaving my tub set at 104, I find that often it's down at 103 and occassionally it gets up to 106.
I have a separate "floater" thermometer that I leave in the spa to make sure the temp readout is correct. And it always is.
Is this sort of fluctuation fairly typcial?

Spas will and can vary 1* up or down, least in Jacuzzi's anyway.

That is exactly what mine does if set at 104.
I keep mine set at 103 during the winter and it is almost always atleast that high. If it's at 102, I set it to 104 and wait until I hear the heater click on(about 10 seconds) then I set it right back down to 103 and go inside for about 5-10 minutes.

Temps here in eastern Pennsylvania have been in the 20's of late. Thought for sure that I would be cranking up the heat on the hot tub during this time. But I really think 100/101 is hot enough for me. Maybe I'll crank it up some night just to check it out, but I find myself sitting in the cool down seat a lot as it is during each soak. And yes, I have a floater themometer, and it matches what the spa display reads.
-
You should never let the water get above 104.
Please be more careful and take precautions to prevent this from occurring.
Enjoy your spa.

It is so interesting how some people are more tolerant of higher temperatures. My husband loves the tub at 102 and I cook! At 101, I am fine, but that one degree is just too hot for me. We even fight over that....he will hit the spa monitor and kick it up a degree ::)and think I won't even look at the temp when I get in!! >:(
My tub holds the temp very well unless the air is turned on and it is real cold outside, it may drop a degree while we soak. It rarely goes over the set temp.
Solo, have you noticed an improvement in your health? I hope the tub has helped because you sure seem to be enjoying it!

Violence is never the right solution. Although he is directing his anger towards the hot tub, it is simply not worth chancing a hostile encounter.
Marquis Spas are owned by the employees. This instills a since of pride in their products. I am sure that the owners/employess would not like hearing that their spas are being subjected to this type treatment.
Keep it below 104.

I never see 106, but according to Dynasty if my tub is at 104, the heater doesn't come on until the tub reaches 103, then runs till it hits 105. I have to catch it right as it shuts off to see 105

Unless you want it hotter ;)

It is so interesting how some people are more tolerant of higher temperatures.
It's also really strange how you can so easily notice a one or two degree temperature rise (or fall)...
101-102 is just right for me...
Bump it up to 103-104 and I'm looking around for potatoes, carrots and onions floating in there with me... :o
Just a newbie observance

I thought I read that the heater (in Jacuzzi) doesn't kick on or off until you have a 2 degree deviation from the set temp. Mine certianly follows that.
And I routinely have occasions where violence is the perfect, often only solution. Never in the hot tub though! ;)
-
Violence only begets more violence. It is never ending as someone is sure to escalate it.
Talk to one aother. Try to find common ground. The hot tub is a great place to reconnect, not intersect.
-
Ooooh I hear what you're saying...No violence. ::) I just bring him a nice glass of wine, put some nice music on the soundsations :) (like Andrea Bocelli)..He relaxes in HIS >:( Adirondack Chair, sips his wine and I slip over to the control panel and TURN THE TEMP BACK DOWN TO 101.. :o :D No violence...but since I maintain the tub, dump, clean and refill the tub and buy all the chemicals...I CONTROL THE TEMERATURE >:( ;D ;D ANY QUESTIONS???
-
No ma'am......I'm a big believer in 101 myself.

That is correct, it doesn't kick on until a two degree temperature drop from set temp. However, It will typically kick off once it reaches one degree higher.

Of course since your spa holds the heat as well as you say it does, the temp doesn't drop. ;)

My wife can't stand the 102 that I like, she likes it at about 100. I actually feel cold at 100 but nice and toasty warm at 102. My wife really never uses the tub so I keep it at 102 and enjoy nice hot soaks. My tub will fluctuate 3º ... 1º above setpoint to 1º below. The heater will then kick on and start it over again. Funny thing is I have been in 104 water in public spas (I verified it with a their thermometer) and it actually hurt to go in but 103 in my spa is nice ... go figure.
I have seen my tub once at 105 and that was in the heat of summer ... no way I was going in. People have written about getting their tubs higher than 104 and some have succeeded.
-
104 used to seem hot to me, in the sense that I would get uncomfortable after about 10 minutes in the spa and have to jump in the pool to cool off.
Now that I'm a spa veteran of many years, 104 is just right, especially this time of year and I find I can sit and stay comfortable for as long as I want.
-
That is correct, it doesn't kick on until a two degree temperature drop from set temp. However, It will typically kick off once it reaches one degree higher.
Must be that by the time the sensor reads the degree over and kicks off, the residual heat bumps it up higher? I often find the temp two degrees over the set point when I go out. I like it that way, often I'll go out and bump the temp up to 104 prior to getting in. Hour later when I go to get in, it's at 106, I get in, move the temp down and get to enjoy the initial hot soak and it gradually cools extending my ability to stay in the tub.
*There was no violence in the development and/or implementation of the aforementioned hottub therapy procedure.

I refer to the increasing of temperature as thermal creep. This prevalent in Florida in summer time, obviously. If it is truly a problem simply prop up a corner of your spa cover in order to allow some ventilation of the trapped heat air. This will bring down the temperature to your set temp. What I just discovered about setting the temp to 104, is the point that the heater actually turns itself off. In previous circuit board iterations, prior to mid-2006 if your spa was set on 104, the circuit programing turned off the heater at 102.99999. For the majority of people this is okay. OUr newest control board iteration turns the heater off at 103.99999. This is offered as a safety feature, and the turn off degree is 103.9999 that is understandable and very accurate. A little extra temperature in the winter would seem like a good thing........I deal with in more so in the summer....Tom

It's been pretty chilly down here at night, so I've been leaving mine set at 106. It was down in the 30's a couple of weeks ago...that's cold to me!

I can detect a 1/2 degree. When I worked at Compuserve we had a whirlpool that had a really hard time regulating its temperature. They had a floating thermometer. My friend and I got pretty good at guessing the temperature to within a half degree. The only time I remember it going to 108, we could only stay in a few seconds.
-
Only in winter when its really cold out will it spike to 105 from 104 degrees.

My wife and I have had this issue in our lives for over twenty years. But in the last year, I have shed some major pounds, and guess what? All of the sudden I like the tub at the same temp she does!
I couldn't have stood it at 103 before, but now I may even try 104.

Now that is interesting, Chas!! You would think an insulated body might be able to stand hotter temps than a thin one...even though that extra insulation will cause you to be hotter during activity.

I don't personally know Chas or his wife, but it may be that after 20 years of "discussion" and "education" by his lovely wife, Chas has finally seen the light and now realizes that she was right all along. I'm just guessin' here.....

I'm here in the midwest and in the winter months if I can't get it to at least a 105 I'm not even entering the tub but at a 107 it's even better when temp's are the 25 degree range w/ snow on the ground.
-
My water feels like it is boiling at 100* .. don't know how someone could stand it at 107*!! :-/

I am a spa industry insider with over 3 years of expereince and have knowlege that surpasses most of the trite I have read on your bulletin board. I have seen you people bicker to no end and I want to scream at the computer to get you to listen. I just typically lurk.
Some of the posts are laffable, especialy when people talk about how there spas are the best and even more worse is the water care advice. ::) :o ;D
Water in regards to hot tubs, or more appropiately "portable spas", should be enjoyed and not exploited by people without the proper credentials and backround.

Is this guy for real? He has to be pulling our chain. I think he needs to run his spell checker also. :)

It is not important for this time and place for you to know who I am or what organization(s) I may represent. I am hear to help people learn about portable spas without byass. You should not be so nosey as to enquire.
My business and motives are mine own. I have no favorite portable spas, but I know more than most here who have no clue.
Please treat me with cortesy and RESPECT please.
How does one turn on spelling checker?

So what do you suggest to do to keep our water clean, clear and bright? What are your suggestions?

Please tryo to stay on topic please. But I will tell you.
This sight is polutted with portable spa and chemical salepeople. They are only after one thing---YOU'RE MONEY.
Do not let them pray on you. Harsh chemicals pollute the enviroment----YES, they do. What do you think happend when you drain your spa???? About 100 gallons of pollutants end up in MY drinking water supply EVERYTIME you drain.
Do this for me---
There are alternative methods to use, formost is Tea tree oil. It is a natural extraction from tea trees and is used as an anti-septic for thousands of years. Just add a few drops after your soak to cleanse the water.
Apple cider vinager can be used to balance Ph and Total alkalinity. It is harmless and smells nice.
Calcium carbonate is natural and can be used, I don't have a problem wiht you using it, so go right ahead.
In spite of the best layed plans, you will experience foam. Gelatin flakes used sparingly can act as a flockulent and remove the foam. It contains cellulose and there is nothing better, especially from a spa store.
To clean your filter, dilute 1 part Aqua Velva after shave lotion in 3 parts of witch hazel and fill the rest of the bucket with natural spring water. The lanolin will make the hair and dirt very slick and help it to remove easier.
If you have more questions please feel free to ask.

This is all we need, another narcissistic spa god. The username alone should have led to his banishment.
