for the 58th Annual Gregg County Fair and Exposition!
I got my camera, free ryde passes, and $200 pocket change for turkey legs, roasted corn, and....glory be.....FRIED TWINKIES!
It's like hanging out in the Spa Wars Cantina seeing all of the degenerates and sodomites that flit about. Ya'll wish me luck, I started drini9ng around 3 so's I'd be up ta speed!
I'll reports shorld things occure which needs reportin'!

It is a true delicacy!! :D :D
They take a Twinkie, jam a stick into it, dip it in a batter similar to a funnel cake batter, then fry it. It truly is wonderful. The fried chocolate chip cookie dough is like eating a gooey, warm chocolate chip cookie - so good. They also have Fried, Snickers, Oreos, Coke, Dr. Pepper, et al. So Good!!!

Yeah, my thoughts too. A nasty tasting twinkie (yuck) deep fried in some corn batter.
Man, Termy's just some Hill Billy who'd eat a shoe if it was fried.
When I saw one in Vegas I had to try it so I could give a personal account.

There was quite the discussion on this some time ago, what they call a "fried twinkie" down in them parts looked suspiciously like a b*tt plug.

The Fried Twinkie is truly the finest delicacy ever concocted by carney folk. The funnel cake batter and the deep frying change the entire consistency of the Twinkie, and then the sprinkling of powdered sugar and drizzling of chocolate syrup turn it into this:

The last time I went to a state fair, a one-armed thirty year old redneck kept trying to hit on my little sister.

Wednesday is typically a pretty slow day at the fair, so it twas a good opportunity to wander about and take in the sights, sounds, smells, illicit touching, and tastes available.
The next best thing to Fried Twinkies is the roasted ears of corn. I like to slather mine with margarine, Parmesan cheese, Tony Chachere's Cajun Seasoning, lemon pepper, Tobasco Sauce, crushed red pepper, black pepper, and a little sea salt for flavoring:

Gotta love going to the fairs in Texas. A wide variety of firearms are available for purchase (as long as you are over 16 and not a convicted felon):

This has got to be the cheesiest booth at the fair. Someone has taken a blanket, hung it up on the back of a tent, and set up a beat up ol' Harley Davidson in front of it. For only $10, you can get your picture made on it. Next year, I'm gonna find a giant pig for people to sit on and get their picture took and make a fortune:

Savanna got a bag of cotton candy (or fairy floss as it's referred to in Australia). When I developed the film, I detected the faint outline of a face in the cotton candy. I didn't realize this until I printed the photos and unfortunately, Savanna ate it before I could sell it on E-Bay and make a fortune:

Last night was my last at the fair. I have to attend a football game this evening and then a high society function tomorrow evening. It is a Catholic school fundraiser called Wonderfall with lots of eatin' and beer drinkin' and dancin' and assorted other Catholic traditions. One of my customers got me tickets. They will have Shiner Bock, so I will partake with them.

Funny, I was on MSN.com today and found a spread on Fried Twinkies. It was on their homepage. The article mentioned even fried sodas, so I clicked on the link. I've never been too sure what it meant. So, here is the description of Fried Coke.
DALLAS -- There are fried Twinkies and even fried candy bars.
Now, vendor Abel Gonzales Jr. has come up with a new artery-clogging concoction for the State Fair of Texas. It's fried Coke.
Gonzales deep-fries Coca-Cola-flavored batter. He then drizzles Coke fountain syrup on it. The fried Coke is topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Gonzales said the fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud.
Gonzales' diet-buster wins the creativity honor at the second-annual Big Tex Choice Awards Contest.

I agree on the Fried Coke. Doesn't sound good to me. BUT, don't knock the Twinkie before you try it. It really is good. Surprisingly so. I had no idea what to expect when I first tried one. Now, I'm sold. Good thing they only sell them at fairs and rodeos - I might have already had a heart attack if they were readily available. Of course, if they were readily available, the folks at the Center for Science in the Public Interest would have it demonized by now. Can I say, no more coconut oil in popcorn?
