Title: Hot Tub Buzzing
Post by: xerkan32 on April 29, 2016, 07:55:31 pm
Hey All

Completely new to hot tubs. Came across this forum and it looks like there is a lot of useful information and users here. I inherited an older hot tub. 1994 from the looks of the manufacture plate. Looks like it holds water. I plugged it in, and it makes a really loud buzzing sound, and the pump nor jets appear to be working. Here is a video of the sound.

Can anyone tell me if that sounds like a dead unit, or what may be wrong with it? Any help is appreciated. Here is a couple other pics of it as well

Is the sound coming from the pump motor or the control panel. Sounds like a stuck relay or a stuck motor causing the relay to buzz.

I cannot be positive, but it sounds like it is coming from the control panel. It doesn't sound like the motor is making any noise at all, but I can't get my head all the way inside the cabinet to hear exactly where it is coming from.

I'm guessing a relay in your control box. The one that switches the pump on.

Hmm ok. Easy fix or no? If I take off the cover to the control box will it be something easily identifiable? Thanks for the information

If you take the cover off and turn it on you'll find it. Might be buzzing because your pump is seized? Can you take the pump out and inspect it? Eliminate it as the problem first.

I probably can. I don't have any experience with working on hot tubs as this is the first one I've ever had. But I'm sure I can find some YouTube videos on how to pull the pump and test if it is working. I will see if I can do that and report back. Do you know of any good videos that might illustrate this?

In the meantime while I work on that, I have a friend who has a hot tub that leaks from a crack some where, but he said the heater and pump are good. Could I steal the pump from his and put it in mine if the pump is seized? Or is everything manufacture specific? Thanks again for the help it is much appreciated.

Do you have a local repair guy that can help? The pump from your friend might work. You will have to look and see if it is the same or close.
