Thanks everyone for the input, and I decided to go with the Summit.  The tub was about $17k, and I ended up paying $20k when it included the Microsilk, lights, cover lift and steps.  I was able to (at least on paper) negotiate some discounts on the upgrades as well as a small cash discount.

Now I am on to the "it will be about 2 months" waiting game for the tub to arrive. 

I hope to provide an update after I've had the tub for a little while so that others can learn from my experience.

MSRP on Epic is a little over 20k. That’s just tub and cover. A lot of options with Marquis tubs that add money onto it. We are in the $18-19 range with lighting, cover companion and matching step plus another 3k for microsilk. I really don’t know how some of these guys were selling those tubs for 12k even in 2021. Maybe east coast shipping makes a big difference for me.

I have seen covers last a year and have seen them last 6-7 years. Most need to be replaced every 3-5 years. So 2.5 years while not great isn’t too far off from 3 years. Lots of things break down covers. If it failed on the bottom part that’s typically from chemicals being off for a period of time.

To keep it in context that quote you are asking about was from 2021. Prices from Marquis have gone up considerably since then.

@gregfl2001  I'm located in the northern California area... Which store did you get a quote for that price for the Marquis Crown Epic? That's a great price and interested in potentially getting one.

I believe the economy is playing a big part. Also, now that people are not forced to stay home, a hot tub is not a high priority and those who have them are not using them as much. I know in my house, our usage is down compared to covid lockdown. We use ours now about 1-2 days a week as opposed to 5-6 days a week during the lockdowns.

So my Caldera cover with 2 year warranty rotted out at 2 & 1/2 years (which is pretty disappointing on a $10K tub)

So with it being rotted on top, it allowed all the rain we've had lately to get in, and with nowhere to go the intact membrane on the underside of that half cover has collected what feels like a couple hundred lbs of water.

I don't want to force it open for fear of breaking it or the lift mechanism when all that weight transfers.

I'm calling Caldera warranty customer service tomorrow to politely and calmly express my displeasure. 

Anyone ever had this happen?

Same as TwinCities. Looking at numbers now versus 2021 it doesn’t look very good but looking at numbers from 2019 we are way up. Still buyers just need to work harder for them.
