Title: Weak pump
Post by: miatadude on April 07, 2021, 06:59:36 pm
We have a 2006 Marquis Epic? Can't remember the model right now but it is big with 2 pumps and has 2 lounges. About 3-4 months ago, the jets on one side started to get weak. I changed filters with very little difference. When troubleshooting, I removed the filter on that side and it functions as it should. Is my pump weak? I don't want to order one and replace it if you all think it could be something else.

Pump 1 pulls off both filters. If you remove 1 and your jet power improves, that tells you that your filter is the problem. Your filters may look clean but they are likely clogged. You might be using 50 square foot filters, you should use 35 square foot filters that put less restriction on the pumps.  Pumps don’t weak over time, they work full power or they stop working.

You don't say how old those filters are which would be good info. When you say "I changed filters with very little difference." do you mean you just swapped with another filter that had been along side it the entire time or was this a swap to a brand new filter?

I've seen filters that look good be the problem so you can't go by looks and maybe all the filters in the tub are beyond their time. Give the 35 sq ft filters a shot as Markee recommends and if  the jets are strong and your water stays clear then then you're set. If the jets run well but you you struggle with water clarity shortly thereafter you can go back to some new 50s at a later time but understand eventually filters bind up not matter how often you clean then and how good they may look to the naked eye.
