I think you should first access how bad your tub really is. Is the water green or really gross? If not, you can probably just shock really well and run your tub to clear out the contamination. That would allow you to leave your filters in place in the event that there would be any plastic like you are suggesting.

So if the tub is not grossly contaminated, you probably don't need the spa purge..but that is just my thought. If you just sanitize with shock you may want to change your water when you are sure the "goobers" have been killed  (maintain a high bromine level)  ;)

When the tech comes, you could ask what he thinks you should do. He will probably have to have his hands in the water to do the repair...so he will know if it warrants spa purge..

Let us know how it all works out.

So they should have fixed your spa yesterday, right?  How did that go?

Drmac,  If I had this situation, I think I would be writing to Marquis. Just stuffing that old busted up foam back in is not a great idea. they make foam that you can spray and that is what he should have done.  And if there is still all  that moisture after two weeks, I also wonder if it will ever dry out properly... how could it sealed up inside of the shell with all that foam?  You need to have this addressed before you have more problems. :-\

The tech might be inexperienced, but that is not a reason to accept this kind of service.
Hello....Marquis guys..what's up with this? This is NOT what I have experienced from Marquis and not what I would expect at a time when the hot tub industry is floundering.. >:(

It's unfortunate that this happened and I think your spa is going to be just fine.  In all fairness, I don't think it's right to criticize Marquis for service that is performed by an independent dealer.  If you bought a Mercedes and you had a problem with it, would you call up the factory that it was built at, or would you take it to the local dealer?

If the regional rep is going to stop by and take a look at your spa, I would say that's excellent service.

Every part of your spa is designed to resist water.  The foam will dry and it has special anti-mold/mildew agents impregnated in it.  The structure of your spa is also going to be completely fine.  Think of a cedar wood deck that is exposed to water a majority of the year in a wet climate.  It will take years and years for that deck to show any signs of rotting.  The cedar in your spa was only exposed to water for a few weeks and it will dry.  On occasion things break, even on the best built products in the world, that's what a warranty is for.

By the way, it sounds like you got an out of this world price on your spa.

"By the way, it sounds like you got an out of this world price on your spa."

Maybe that is why the service sucked.

Markee, you know as well as I do that when a foam dig is done, the proper procedure is to refoam, not stuff in the wet foam that was removed.  At least with Hot Spring.  Maybe Marquis has a different procedure.

"I had a motor/pump assembly replaced at the same time"

why was that needed on a one year old spa?

It's strange that they replaced the pumps.  The store I work at has sold 100s of spas with this same pump without a single failure.

I'm glad it sounds like everything is going to get taken care of.

They changed the color of the motor a few months ago, but it's the exact same pump.

Is the rep in your area Jason?  He's a really good guy.

Drmac,

So glad that you contacted the right people at Marquis. I have had such a positive experience with Marquis that I couldn't imagine the problems that you experienced. :-\ Sometimes it is just a matter of getting to the right people and presenting your case to allow them to make things right.  ;)

I also imagine that some dealers are not financially able to provide the level of service that they did a couple of years ago. It sounds like that was a big part of your problem.

Perhaps this will also end up being a learning experience for the tech who serviced your spa.  ;)

Let us know how it all works out.

Drmac,  Hopefully you still check in here once and a while. I am very curious as to how Marquis resolved this issue.  I always give such positive reviews for my tub and the company but I would like to know that everyone is as happy as I am.  My neighbors are on the edge right now..possibly going to buy a tub but want to put it in the garage..(will work on that aspect) ::), but I would like to give them a 100% thumbs up for Marquis.. ;)
 Thanks..

Boni
