For my Liberal Friends:  Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures who contribute.

For my Conservative Friends: Here's wishing all of You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Going to be a different Christmas this year.  We will be making the 238 mile trip to grandmas again this year, but this year we hope to make it. Weather forecasts look good.   I'll be with my sister, her husband, and younger son.  Her older son arrived in Iraq today, a day they have been dreading for a year.  In a twist of terrible irony, in what I see mainly as a PR move, the very next battalion scheduled to go after them was canceled.
