Welcome! Come on in and have a Shiner Bock and enjoy general conversation.  I’m sure we all have some good hot tub stories to share.

Kinna' early (1050 eastern) for a Bock and a stogey, but good conversation is always enjoyable.   :)

I'm at work with the internet radio on to a French station (as in France).  The music is fine but I don't know if they're swearing or just babbling.  No parlay view Francis. :-X

Its about 5:45 Saturday evening.  Just shocked the spa and had a quick dip in the pool.  Now just relaxing on the deck with a beer and music.  No one home but me and the dogs.  A rare quiet time at my house.  It is absolutely gorgeous out.  Light breeze with the sun just starting to set behind the largest trees.  Sometimes you just don't need more than this.

Good Mornin'!  It is just after 11 am here in SW PA, and I have just been getting caught up on some stuff, and haven't visited or posted in a week or so.  Finished painting the house, so I will try to start putting together the kids' trampoline and net today.

This past weekend, my daughter had cheer camp, always cute, and were being taught by the Tennessee Top Gun, for anyone with cheerleaders in their family.  They are still in their early years, but working hard.

Friday, I was over my neighbors for some Margaritas and Bob Marley, and just as I settled in, my panicked kids reported the cat was stuck high in a tree.  Hubby was trying to get her down, she just wasn't havin' it.  (I never doubt the man loves me; he doesn't care for cats much, but got me one, and rescued it from the tree!  :D).  Now, feeling obligated, I also gave my try at about 30-40 feet up in the air on a ladder (not too good after a Mikes, Miller Chill and a 'rita.)  Kitty still wasn't havin' it.  Hubby finally coaxed her into her carrier and lowered her down, safe.  Whatta man. :-*  Still went back over my neighbors, and we killed half a bucket o' rita's with some good conversation.  She was sweet to want to drive me home (I declined) since we do have some terroristic skunks in our neighborhood.

Hubby has already gotten the pool cleaned and chems checked.  So, I'll dip later.  Haven't wet tested the Tundra yet,  my bad,  been busy.

Then, back on night shift...

Hope all yinz guys are having a good week, and soon to be a good weekend! ;D

Chrisi

Heading home for the pool in 45 minutes. After a quick dip I will be preparing for our first family vacation in 7 years.

1. Change oil in van
2. Prepare drink
3. Repair gutter I ran over with lawnmower (To think of all the times I told my daughter Hallie to be careful when cutting by the hose) :-[
4. Refill drink
5. Replace faulty switch in sump pump
6. Refill drink
8. Purchase chemicals for pool and tub (neighbor is going to watch in return for unlimited soaks)
9. Soak & drink

Early Friday morning we're heading to Sullivan's Island, SC. My in-laws rented an ocean front home and were kind enough to allow me join their daughter (my wife) and the rest of her family.

HAHAHA!!  Well, Dax, my sponge bath requirements include tubes in every orifice, since I am an ICU nurse!!    :-[ :o :o ;D  But, that territory does include good drugs! ;) ;)  I could, however, send you a Pens shirt for being in second place??  ;D ;)

Scott is right.  Dax, you picked my friend Rose.  Just for shitz and giggles, I threw the "tan" comment in, sonce we all had a tan!!

Oh well, thats some of the crew I work with.  My manager is the shorter lady in black--the best dang manager in the world.  We were at a wedding for a fellow nurse.  We love weddings and parties!!!  Ahhh, stress relief.

Well back to nappy time for night shift. :(

Hey, so with all the heaviness on the Forum, let's get back to a different thread!!

So here in PA, it has been less than 80 for some time, but this week is going to be hotter, mid 80's, but that still means no swimming--I am tired of trying to fix our water :(.  Now, I really wish for a hot tub, preferably one I didn't have to pay for, oh well.  (isn't there some complaint about global warming?-- ain't seein' it here!)

Thus, we shall be closing our pool soon, and summer party time is coming to an end, though the kiddies will be returning to school soon...

So, Mr Bubbles, what's hapennin' with you??

How about, shall we all post pix of summer fun?  I'll start--

Me and 2 of my sons at graduation...

more to come later..

Weather's still warm enough to swim in Eastern PA during the day.  And it's starting to get real nice to soak at night.  Was a quick summer though.  My kids (11th grade and 8th grade) start back to school two weeks today.  Then it's football season!  8-)

what's the rush? I am so sad my kids are going back to school..and really depressed this summer is coming to an end. I don't think I ever remember such nice weather...It was a beautiful summer and who cares if the pool is cold? It makes the jump in the pool and then in the tub even better..BUT you need a hot tub to do that...so that's your cue Chrisi...you need a hot tub to do that... It is the best therapy..hands down that you will ever get.!! ;)

I have Eagles season tickets.  The Steelers visit this year.  There are a lot of loser... uh, er, I mean Steelers fans buying up tickets for the game at exhuberant prices.  I'm debating whether I want to go to that game or sell my tickets for just about half of what my season tickets cost.  Hmmmmm?

\
Me too, Boni, but it does mean I can come off so many night shifts.  Not looking forward to the restrictions that school requires.  However, I think the kids are ready to get back and see some of their friends, though.  It has been a nice summer, thank God, but I am tired of my pool water looking murky when the pump is running, so I am glad we haven't had good swimming weather.  Obviously, something is wrong with the pump/filter, but we don't know what, hubby changed out the sand twice/flushed/rinsed,... >:(

With fall approaching, I am sure we will be back in the mood for spa hunting, which, despite the current sentiments about Arctic on the forum, would include more Arctic models.  As well as other brands.  But I am still not sure I want to spend that kind of money when I need other things, more neccessary things, done first.  But, I can't relax in the kitchen I need, nor the windows that would be nice to replace, ...  Oh well.  Time will tell.... :-/

Don't forget about the baseball playoffs!  8-)

My weekend starts in about 3 hours.  Taking off this afternoon to play golf with friends.  A few drinks at the 19th hole and I'll be home in time to watch game-2 of the Phillies/Brewers.  Hopefully it'll be over in time for the VP debate.

Tomorrow won't be as much fun as I'm taking off to do all the yardwork I've been neglecting - trim hedges, edge, weeds, etc.  I foresee a long hot tub session Friday night.  Hopefully I'll be able to get all that crap done because I do have weekend plans.

Saturday AM is my son's middle school football game, followed by Penn State/Purdue on the tube in the afternoon.  My sister's birthday party is at 6pm.  Wonder how she's going to feel about all the guys watching game-3 of the Phillies/Brewers during her party?  :o

On Sunday, it's down to the Linc for the Eagles/Redskins.  My son's going with me so there will be no beer or tailgating involved.  I'll just have to make up for it when I get home Sunday evening.

I spent Halloween night hooking up my new TV and blu-ray player.  Didn't get many trick-or-treaters, but we usually don't in my neighborhood.  My daughter is 15 and she no longer goes.  She spent the night with friends at Dorney Park - local amusement park which dresses up for Halloween.  My son is 13.  He went to a party and came home with a very limited amount of candy.  As a matter of fact, all I had from his bag was a small Nestle Crunch bar.  Kinda sad that I will no longer be able to steal trick-or-treat candy from them anymore...

I bought an HD camcorder. It's so cool to see home video that looks like professional football!!

I loved my sister's 46 inch Samsung and got the exact same one for my sunroom. I also have a Samsung 23 inch in my kitchen. I am very happy with both of them.

I heard on the news that the price of the flat screen TV's will be coming down as many people are buying the digital conversion boxes and hanging on to those old TV's.

Oh the camcorder is a Cannon Vixia HV30. I was really amazed at the quality of the video. My husband is traveling a lot now and he is missing my kid's activities, so I wanted to capture everything on video that I can show in HD. I don't have the capability to burn to blu- ray yet (or that blu-Ray player)..but maybe that will be the motivator that gets me one!!

It’s good to hear you are happy your Samsung LCD’s.  This is my first Samsung product in a long time. It really does have a great picture in both HD and even SD.

At least Blu-ray players are coming down in price. The Sony PS3 is a good way to go too, it has a really good Blu-ray player. No burning, though.

I will have to add the burner to my computer, and then maybe the PS3 would be the choice to show the Blu-Ray..hopefully they will come down in price soon too!!

Nice, what TV did you get? I just bought a new Samsung LCD, myself.

Sharp Aquos 46" 1080P LCD.  Picture is amazing particularly with blu-ray.  Kinda glad my old tube TV died now...

It came down to the Samsung or the Sharp.  The Samsungs were very nice, but they were a couple hundred dollars more, had a very reflective screen which would not have worked so welll in our family room due to a large window, and it had this reddish tint around the outside of the panel.  They call it a touch of color.  Not sure why they came up with that.  There was also a brand new model, which had a blue tint, but that was even a little more money.  So I went with the Sharp.  Plus I got $100 off the blu-ray player of my choice by going with the Aquos.  But I would have been very happy with either brand.

Cool, sounds like you got a nice TV!

Yeah, I got the one with the ToC, it was almost a deal breaker.  Luckily, it is not visible at home.

We still love our 50" Samsung DLP, got it when 720 dpi prices were dropping. Now I wonder if Blue ray is worth having on a 720DPI set.

I bought a Samsung DLP (61a750) before my LCD.  It had great picture and it was huge!  Unfortunately, a bug got inside the set and was visible on the screen soon after I purchased it. I return it for my current LCD.  Sometimes I wish I would have tried another DLP, it really was a great price for a 61” 1080P set.

I would say no. 1080P is extremely sharp and you can only benefit from a 1080P TV. What you can do is get a high hef or an upconversion to high def DVD. The other thing to think about is it 720I or 720P - the I is less sharp than the P. I think that a 720P TV is slightly less sharp than a 1080I.

My old TV broke, we bought a high def model and NOBODY watches TV in high def. Whenever the Yankees were on and my kids just happen to be watching, I would turn it to the high def channel just to use it. My wife bought me the "Planet Earth" DVD set and with it on upconversion and in high def - it is amazing. I don't believe that upconversion gives true high def but it does something to the picture.

Looks like the 1080P TV's are really starting to drop in price. You can get a low end 52" LCD for just over $1000 and a top end unit for around $2000.  Last year at this time, they were about twice that much.

As Boniebelle Said, Circuit City is not looking too good. You problay can get a really good deal there too.

This is a good thread to bring up nominations for POY.  Unfortunately, I don't have one, but I'm sure somebody does.  Ladies and gentlemen, let the nominations begin. :o

If we should start a new thread for the nominations, someone can do that too.

You can get a pretty decent 720p HDTV 50" Samsung (Plasma) for as little as $798 @ Wal-Mart.  You can get a "nearly" top-of-the-line 52 LCD for $1,500.  It seems that even only the "ultra-expensive" ones are only $2400 (Elite).  Heck, I saw a 65-inch LCD on sale for $3700 @ BJ's.  You may think that $3700 isn't cheap but to put it in perspective, I paid $3,400 for our first 42-inch plasma (Toshiba) just 5-short years ago.

For those trying to understand how the resolution makes a difference, here is a good outline...

1. Standard DVD's are 480p and they do show a decent image.  You can tell the difference between SD (Standard definition) and DVD's 480 resolution on a screen as small as 32-inches.

2. The next step up is 720p (p stands for "progressive" and odd as it may seem, many older DVD players only operation in (I) mode...interlaced.  You can't typically tell the difference between 720i or 720p on a typical 42-inch screen.

3. Until this year, the typical LCD or Plasma screen was 1366x768 and therefore the HIGHEST resolution any of those could accomplish was/is 720p and that requires a progressive scan DVD player.  You CAN run 1080i to most all such screens.  This is because the TV itself will accommodate 1080i on a 720p screen with no problem (This is how EVERYBODY watched the 2004 Olympics and you remember how visually stunning that coverage was!)

4.  1080p display's are those that have the ability to show more individual lines but ABSOLUTELY NO content from ANY provider will come from ANY of the current channels (not Time Warner and not Satellite).  The ONLY providers capable of offering ANY content at the higher resolutions would be the fiber optic vendors that offer FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) such as AT&T U-Verse or Verizon FIOS.  HOWEVER, none of these currently offer this due to the extreme amount of overhead required for such a signal.  So, the ONLY format you can watch in 1080p is BluRay. (PS - I work as a consultant to service providers who are considering the complications that trying to offer such higher-resolution services will place on their networks in the future).

5. Seeing the difference between 720p and 1080p is virtually impossible from a typical viewing distance of 8 feet away on a 42-inch set.  It is only "barely" discernible on a 52-inch set from that same distance.  By "barely", I mean that only a professional trained eye can tell the difference from that distance on the larger set.

So, unless you are planning on watching a LOT of Blu-Ray material (or alternately require high text resolution from a PC display), you will not see a significant benefit from a 1080p set.  But, even the lower formats are still stunning in the lower Hi-Def resolutions (480p, 720p, 1080i).  Having said all this, the other issue is that the 1080p sets are getting pretty darned cheap and I would recommend that anyone considering buying a new set to go ahead and get it in 1080p because they are SO cheap (Good name-brand 52-inch 1080p sets are available as cheap as $1,299). However, if you don't have the extra cash, you can also be comfortable knowing that there simply is not really THAT much difference watching "typical" HD content on a lower 720p set.  So, don't expect to see ANYTHING in 1080p UNLESS you are watching Blu-Ray content.

As you may be able to tell, one of the sites I am on when I am not on this one is the Audio-Video forums.  Here is a link to one of the best.  This is for the "tech" area of the flat-panel screen section of this site.  If you want something more specific to LCD or Plasma, move up one directory level from this link...
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=40

Reference (Equipment I have)
1. A 1080i/720p 42-inch Toshiba plasma in my living room.
2. A 1080i/720p front-projection overhead projector in my dedicate Home Theater room displaying the image on a screen that is 120-inches diagonal (in 4:3 mode) or 110-inches diagonal (in 16:9 mode) or 87-inches in 2:35 (Cinema) mode.
3. A 1080p 37-inch LG LCD in my office (I use the display as both my Computer monitor as well as to display video content).
4.  A Home Theater PC HTPC running Blu-Ray outputting at the higher 1080p resolution.  Note: I also output this 1080p resolution to my 720p front projector which "down-converts" it to 720p when it is shown in the Home Theater room. This also controls 12-zones (24 speakers) in 12 different areas in the home and on the grounds outside the home as well as controls 2 different 5.1 and one 7.1 (Home Theater) sound systems.
5.  I am considering replacing an older 36-inch non-HDTV tube-style TV in the play room with one of the newer 52-inch screens and even though my kids use it for gaming, I am likely to only put in one of the lower-end 720p displays since the Wii cannot make use of any additional resolution.  The one caveat is that I have an xBox 360 on order for my oldest boy and I "think" that it may be capable of the higher 1080p resolution (but don't know for certain yet).

As all you NFL fans know, the team that resides in my home city is an absolute disgrace this season. I recieved this in an email from a friend of mine(he's a Chief's fan, btw). Some pretty funny stuff.

The Missouri State Police are cracking down on speeders heading into St. Louis .
For the first offense, they give you two Rams tickets.  If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.

Q. What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?
A. The St. Louis Rams

Q. What do the St. Louis Rams and Billy Graham have in common?
A. They both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell 'Jesus Christ'.

Q. How do you keep a St. Louis Ram out of your yard?
A. Put up a goal post.

Q. Where do you go in St. Louis in case of a tornado?
A. To Edward Jones Dome, they never get a touchdown there!

Q. What's the difference between the St. Louis Rams and a dollar bill?
A. You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.

Q. What do the Rams and a possum have in common?
A. They both play dead at home, and they get killed on the road!

So those were the two I saw the cops dragging out on Monday night.  :D

Just think Boni, three weeks ago those jokes did apply to the Eagles.  Now three weeks later, we're right back in the hunt.  Root for the Vikings this weekend, and of course the E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!

OH man Dax, my kid sent me a text picture of where he sat...right on the 50 yard line. It turns out that his friend's Dad is good friends with someone in the Pittsburg Steelers organization..and they gave them their seats that night...Amazing..He always lucks out!

I wish there was a way to get tickets for the Dallas game, but I figure that is pretty much impossible at this point.   :-/

Played golf yesterday for the first time since October, but it was a lot colder than the 53* they said it was.  A lot of wind and the sun was in and out all day.  But I'll take it.

Heading down to Ocean City, Maryland this upcoming weekend with a group of guys from work for a golf getaway.  Sure hope it warms up by then as it was in the high teens here today.
