Title: 20 year old shell starting to deteriorate
Post by: Pers Onal on July 08, 2021, 01:23:48 pm
This is a Hydrospa shell, they went out of business in 2007.

20 years is supposed to be the general life of an acrylic shell, to the best of my memory.

I noticed about a round roughly one inch darker space, circled in red on the attached pic, and several much smaller places nearby.

My question is: There anything that I can practically do to extend the usual life of the shell? I'm wondering if some sort of acrylic patch can be overlaid?

Or is it better to just bite the bullet and buy another one? or wait till it starts leaking or another pump bites the dust.

I do really like the tub and how it's configured.

Couldn't figure out how to attach the pic

Use a hosting service like Imgur and use the BBCode link in your post to load your pictures.

On your shell, I don't know. It's most likely deteriorating at a spot where the shell is supported and that support has shifted or something. If it's not leaking you may be able to patch it from underneath, then resupport it. If the waterside surface is compromised, this is reported to have good results but apply dry. I'm sure the pro's will chime in a bit later.
