Title: what to do with tub while on vacation?
Post by: spa-ing on December 12, 2006, 03:35:23 pm
We have a 400gal Jacuzzi Echo series spa. We'll be gone 3 weeks and need to keep it from turning to a petri dish. Will just letting it sit idle (heat and pump on auto) while gone and some shock upon return do the trick?  We use bromine only.

I use bromine and have left for 12 days, returning to perfect water. As close to leaving time as possible I shock (big shock) the water, turn the heat down to 98 and increase the bromine floater a little. Make sure your filters are clean (give them a rinse) so they are not contributing to the petri dish issue.

I'm not sure if turning the heat down helps or not, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Short of having someone come over and throwing in some MPS, not sure what else you can do, someone else on here will though!

Thanks Dan

I recently bought a bottle of bromine tabs for floaters made by HP at the Wal-mart when I ran out of my Leisure Time brand. I found they dissolved almost instantly in the water. Needless to say I'm off to the spa store for the ones that last longer than over night!

I'll turn the heat down--don't need 102 while gone.

Turn on your ozonator and you'll be all set! 8-)

Oh wait, I'm one of the people who really don't trust that'll work.  ;) Turn the heat really low, shock and close the lid. Leave everything else the same and shock when you come home.

I went to Europe for 3 weeks this year.  What I did was shock the living hell out of it before I left, and dropped my dispenser to a lower setting so the bromine disolved slower. When I cam hope, shocked it again and I was good to go.

I also dropped the temp a bit so that i wasnt waisting energy.
