Title: So its true, you all just do not recommend Masters Spas
Post by: TubbinLuvin on April 12, 2019, 12:27:27 am
What is so wrong with them ?

Look at those leg jets, ever seen so many so nicely placed. Wonderful crafting and placement

The cost to run is low ?

Whats the catch, because Ive also never seen a tub with better aesthetics

Yet, none of you ever mention them ?

Look at this gorgeous tub, whats the catch ?

What is a estimate of the price for this ?

They are very popular down in the mpls/stp area of MN. They run an efficient sales machine.

But with all those tubs out there we get a good look at longevity, reliability and energy consumption.

They don't do as well as other brands in these categories that's why I don't like them. But to each his own.

They have flash and tons of itchy jet power.

Aesthetics is a personal opinion.  I think they look nicer now than in years past, but I personally would place about 10 other brands higher on the aesthetics list.

Those leg jets may look appealing, but until I was able to wet test that spa, I wouldn't be overly excited.  I've sat in a 85 jet Clearwater Monaco that had more leg jets than some spas have jets.  The feel was slightly underwhelming considering the jet count and the fact the spa had 4 jet pumps.  After that experience, I don't get excited by "a lot" of jets.

Look at the energy guide calculations.  It's assuming 60 degrees outside air temperature and that is only to keep the hot tub heated, not actually using it.  In my opinion, average energy efficiency at best.

The reason they don't get highly recommended here is for numerous reasons.  Mostly because of the shady business practices (and yes, I view that is a valid reason.  If you can be shady in one aspect of your business, how are you supposed to be trusted in others).  Their quality is average (look closely at their fit/finish compared to other "premium" manufacturers) but they tout themselves as premium.  I bet that spa they try to sell for $15k+.  There are too many other manufacturers with a history of quality and far better reputations for similar or sometimes even less money.

If that is the spa you think you like most, then wet test it.  If the wet test proves its the best for you and you have a local dealer that is reputable and trustworthy, then consider it.  I personally am not going to take a chance on a questionable product/company unless every other aspect of my research concludes that said product is the best for me.

And to be clear, there is a reason that there are a handful of brands on here that get regularly recommended.  Yes, some of us are dealers (I sell Hot Spring, Caldera, and Marquis) while others are service techs or have other jobs within the industry.  We see the products first hand, work on them, know more of the "inside" stuff going on within the industry.  A specific brand does not get recommended against unless there is a reason.  Master Spas is not the oldest, not the newest, doesn't sell the most, yet besides probably Cal Spas, no other brand is as poorly looked upon.

We are here to advise people when they come here looking for "advice" or just plain information on just about anything hot tub related.. Most of us have been in the industry a very long time.  Like mentioned some are owners, some are sales and some are service. I have been both and in it close to 20 years.

That said it's your money, and your choice.  If you think that's the spa for you, buy it.   But buy from a dealer, not the dog and pony road show.   Least then you will have someplace to go into should you have a problem.   Chances are you will be fine and have the spa for however long it last.

Stop worrying about the small stuff!

Most people just hate there sales tactics...dragging a semi-truck and a bunch of salespeople across the US and doing whatever they can to sell someone a spa out of a parking lot then leave town isn't exactly going to make you friends with the local dealers although most dealers here who sell premium brands will still make their sales with premium customers looking for the value of buying locally, having a store to get their water tested, service calls within 24-48 hours, hot tub valet & chemical stop services, etc.

As far as product I haven't 'tore one down' in years so to give them the benefit of the doubt I can't comment, I will say I do sell Dynasty Spas and we do very well with them, they share A LOT of similarities to Master.  Dynasty is a brand that most turn their noses up at as well but they have really turned around the company and to be honest they manufacturer a damn reliable hot tub for a pretty fair price point, all of our sales guys have no issues selling them and they do offer great value in the $6,500-$10,000 price points whereas from some of the 'big boy brands' you need to spend 10k - 16k to get their "premium features"

As far as the tub you posted, again not knowing the brand ALL that well I'd venture to guess it would retail in a showroom with accessories around the $9,495 - $10,495 range depending on options....just a guess

I would be surprised if it sells for more than $10K for base model.  Looks like lots of options.
