Title: My "Vintage" Spa REPLACED 06-2013!
Post by: Spoiledrotten on November 19, 2012, 11:43:28 am
It's a 1994 model Vita. It's our first and is serving us very nicely as a beginner, "learn the ropes" spa.
I realize it's not state of the art, but it does provide a wonderful place to relax and get away from the rest of the world while sipping on some good old home made wine.

We've added a gazebo with mosquito netting around to keep those MS state birds (mosquitos) away from our little paradise.

28 years old and that tub looks amazing - WOW - have you done much to the wood sides - they look to be in great shape.  I remember our chat about the hanging light, but never saw your tub up close; that deserves some kind of collector's plate on it!  ;D

Very nice!

Thanks, Johnny. It was purchased and put in a sunroom for all of those years by the original owner, so it didn't get sun faded or bleached out. When we got it, we put Orange Glow on the redwood and viola, it look showroom clean. We're pretty proud of it. I'd love to get a larger one, but the real redwood sides look so much better than the simulated wood grain stuff they put on so many of the newer ones. I'm sure I'll go that route one day, but for now, I'm going to stick with this one. Runs like a top, too! It just needs a few replacement jets, but at its age, I'm a little scared to try to put too much pressure on unscrewing the old ones. Just don't want to damage it.

I'm fixing to purchase one of these to put on my spa to control the blower motor.

http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-ACSC-Duct-Speed-Adjuster/dp/B003URBQ1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354642377&sr=8-1&keywords=Duct+Fan+Speed+Adjuster (http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-ACSC-Duct-Speed-Adjuster/dp/B003URBQ1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354642377&sr=8-1&keywords=Duct+Fan+Speed+Adjuster)

My blower has two speeds; wide open and off. With this control, I can dial the amount of turbulence I want in the spa, from bubbling action coming up through the water to full blown, water in your face, action. Got any comments on that idea?

I got the fan controller installed and it works perfectly. Just what I needed to slow that blower down some.

My little wife just bought me a towel/robe warmer for my BD, to put out by our spa.

The wife and I went out this weekend and bought a new Hot Tub. After lots of research, we went with the 2013 Hot Springs Envoy. This thing is beautiful and looks like lots of great soaks in our future. We have thoroughly enjoyed the "vintage" spa for the last several months, and it was a great starter tub to make sure we would like it after the "old" new wore off, but it is time for a little upgrade. It's supposed to be delivered this week. Really excited over the new addition to our little corner of paradise.

What do you folks think about the HS Envoy?

Okay, they delivered my new HS Envoy. I got it set up and running. Chems are doing their thing. Now, I have to get the bug screen gazebo built up around it. Proud owner!

Wow, that's a beauty!  Looks like lots of great years ahead of you in that one, very impressive.  So, did some relative or neighbor end up on the receiving end of your old classic hot tub?  :)

Is yours a 2013 model? Mine is a 2012 and the cover folds the opposite direction. Just curious. Aren't you loving it! I just got mine two weeks ago and its a little slice of heaven especially the other night sitting in the spa looking up at the Supermoon!

Thanks, Johnny. My brother is the recipient of the vintage. I'm going to be delivering it to him in a couple of weeks. Ready to get it out of the driveway. We also bought a new canvas gazebo to go over this one like we did the other one. Really enjoying our new one, but wouldn't take a $5.00 bill for the experience we got with the older one. It was a great learning experience for us, plus, we got to use it for a while to be sure we really wanted a better one.

And to the girlinhotwater; it is a 2013 and we ARE loving it! Hot Spring knew what they were doing when they created this one! The only negative thing about it so far is very minor, yet important. It doesn't have a pillow in the corner seat by the water feature. They missed it on that move. That is a premium seat and should have a pillow, so I ordered one to be installed on it. We've spent the days looking forward to the evening soaks.

I didn't like the Poly steps that came with my package, so I sent them back to the dealership at the time of delivery. I built my own steps. I also put LED lighting under them so they would glow from under and between the HT and the steps. Here's how they turned out. We used a "coffee" stain and although it wasnt the "Expresso" it was a much darker than I would have chosen, but then it perfectly matches the cover lift and the trim on the gazebo.

I also agree with the missing pillow in the captain's chair. That is my only complaint with my Envoy...that and the too fast color wheel in the spa. How did they install the extra pillow? I would like to add that as well if you can and wouldn't mind can you post a picture of what your dealer did? You did a great job on your steps and your setup is awesome! We love our Envoy too and it's so much better at home than when we did our test soak. Cheers to many nights of great soaking!

I installed the pillow myself. I'll get some pics of it. It isn't as easy as the two stock ones seem to be since the angle of the acrylic isn't the same as the two existing ones. I think it turned out very well, and the wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the feel of the pillow last evening.

I don't like others messing with my stuff. They might be the "professional", but they don't have anything invested in my possessions so they aren't going to be as meticulous as I am with building, repairing, or upgrading something, such as when they delivered mine, they didn’t handle it as gently as I would have. I had to bite my tongue a couple of times, knowing if they scratched or dented something on it, they could just load it right back up and take it back to the dealership and pick up another one. Just the way I am.

The pillow looks a little crooked in the pics, but I measured off of the water level and not from anything above since those lines are offset somewhat. Anyway, here is the additional pillow.

I'm impressed well done! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics. How did you attach the pillow to the shell? You should send these pics to Hot Springs to show them how it's done right! hahaa

When I ordered the pillows, I purchased the mounting brackets that go with it. Pillows and brackets were a total of $41.00. I measured, and then measured, and then measured... well you get the picture.  :) Then I used my drimel and drilled the 4 holes where the SS screws anchored the brackets.

This past weekend, I built another set of steps for my spa. They are about 2' wide; not quite as wide as the ones on the "controls" side but I built to the width of the foot well. Now, we have two sets. I never liked getting in over the lounger seat, but I definitely wanted some steps to help cover the electrical  on that side. I also put LED lights under them, drilled 1-1/2" holes in the front of the steps so that each step would illuminate and be easy to see when coming out of the tub. Still loving this tub!  My wife mentioned last night, while we were soaking, that every evening seems like Friday night. I surely agreed with her.

Here's a couple of pics with the LED lit up under the steps.

This is the short step on the front of the spa. It's about 2' wide.
(http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss250/totallyrotten58/6B21C215-0915-4855-9DC0-D9038E5070C1-1621-00000337D2191479_zpsc15fa842.jpg) (http://s580.photobucket.com/user/totallyrotten58/media/6B21C215-0915-4855-9DC0-D9038E5070C1-1621-00000337D2191479_zpsc15fa842.jpg.html)

This shows the same one after it's gotten a little darker.

(http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss250/totallyrotten58/56BC83F8-0CC2-4F18-B3B4-A07A119EDBBC-1621-00000337C2530D72_zpse54462c6.jpg) (http://s580.photobucket.com/user/totallyrotten58/media/56BC83F8-0CC2-4F18-B3B4-A07A119EDBBC-1621-00000337C2530D72_zpse54462c6.jpg.html)

And in this one, you can see both steps, but not a very good shot of the wider steps that are about 34" wide.

Ok, hot tub, warm water, cool air... yep, we have to have air blowing over us.... so I went today and bought a hanging indoor/outdoor fan for the ceiling of our gazebo.

Hot tubs are like Jeeps.... you never get through upgrading and adding things.  ;)

Thanks TCHS! We are really enjoying it. That fan makes all of the difference, keeping the water temp from going up during the summer. It won't blow your hair but it does create a very soft breeze that the water responds to. During the summer months, the water would rise several degrees, making it much warmer than we liked until we added that little item.

As far as the lights go, that's the only reason I like the days getting shorter. We get to enjoy the lit up spa sooner in the evening.

Thanks for the comment.

Last evening was wonderful! We had a cold front come through. Ok, in MS, a cold front brings the temp down just a little but it was still  the first cool snap of the year and the soaking was great. It was cool enough to fill the gazebo with heavy steam. It was close to 60, but there was a anticipation of things to come. I know that you guys up north still sunbath in 50* weather, but.....

I modified my Envoy ever so slightly.
I ordered three "spinner jets" and installed them. Now, I have two spinners in the corner seat directly diagonal from the filter compartment which make a huge difference over the two straight shooters that came in it. I also changed out the straight shooter jet in the seat between the two corner with another spinner so that seat now has three spinners.

When I sit in the corner diagonally across from the filter compartment, and turn the pump two air control toward the head of the lounger, that spinner hit the lower back and creates a fantastic massage.
