Hey, Pool People I Need Your Help ...
Vinny:
I have an above ground pool and I opened this year and last year to a stained pool wall where the water line for the winter was. It is greenish and didn't come off when I brushed the sides. Both years I opened the pool to no stabilizer although I closed the pool and I did have stabilizer in the water.
Upon opening and refilling my water had no stabilizer. low PH and alkalinity and probably low calcium.
I have shocked the pool with at least 8PPM chlorine (with 0 stabilizer) and it didn't go away. I used the magic eraser at the suggestion of Bonibelle and it didn't do anything (sorry Boni!).
Any suggestions on what to use? I am thinking there may be something to pour into the water that will lift the stain.
Any suggestions? This better not ever happen to my spa!
Bonibelle:
Wow Vinny, I'm surprised, the magic eraser cleaned my neighbor's ring and it was really disgusting! I know in the past we have used chlorox clean up spray and a spa mit to clean the ring around the pool, but I think that our stain was probably from suntan lotion. Maybe if you can drop your water level to just below the stain and try Chlorox. ;). If it's an algae type stain the bleach should get rid of it.
To be honest, I think you are not scrubbing hard enough..so get back in there and use a little elbow grease! ;D ;D
Vinny:
That stain is from where the winter water level was to the floor ... I would have to empty my pool! :o
I really did try hard, even used my foot and the sponge on the bottom of the pool. I thought that the chlorine would have worked with the original shock of at least 8 PPM and it being there most of the night. I tested my water in the AM after putting the bleach in in the PM and it measured about 5 PPM. I would think that it would have been bleached out.
Bonibelle:
Sorry, Vinny, I misunderstood, I thought the stain was at the water mark. I don't think the eraser works well underwater. :-/
Pathfinder:
What we use for those kinds of stains on openings are one of those normal kitchen type scrubbers where you can pour liquid into the handle and it comes out the end. Depending on the type of stain we use either some stain prevent product, algaecide, or tilex for stairs. They can be bought at any grocery store or walmart. They wont scratch the liner either.
