Bonnibelle.....since you brought it up .....

Someone at work told me something last week that I had
never heard before and I was wondering if it is actually true.

This lady told me that any mattress over 8 years old has
an enormous amount of bed mites.

She said no matter how clean you are....
No matter how much you wash your bedding
That all mattress' after a few years have huge mite populations.
Sometimes as many as a million mites in one bed!

She did say there was an exception something called
a "Tempur-Pedic" is made and sealed in such a
way that the mites can not burrow into it, but that they
can still live and breed in your pillows and other bedding.

YUCK!

Brewman:
Dust mites are a way of life, and if regular hygene and laundry processes are used, are a non issue for most people.  But sales and marketing people like to use them to scare potential customers to their products.  Rather like the over hyped anti-bacterial products.
There is also a WTB-Lawnmower forum, for those keeping track of this stuff.

We have a Select Comfort bed, have owned it for almost 9 years, and wouldn't ever go back.

Bonibelle:
I saw a clip on TV about this too. I just wonder how did they get there?  If the mattresses are new, and by law they are supposed to be...How could the mites get there in the first place?  I think the allergy companies claim that you have mites in bedding that feed on dead skin (and many people are allergic to them) but you can avoid the problem by encasing the mattress and washing sheets in very hot water.

I can see how that foam would prevent them from establishing themselves since it is not as open as the pillow top materials and fluff. We tried the foam..and I just don't like it, I also hear it is hot to sleep on.

I wish there was a What's the Best Piano forum  :-/
Thanks ;)

If you are considering a tempur pedic or similliar mattress material (this is the "memory foam" products) try them out first. I found the material comfortable, but very hot. The matress doesn't breath well and kind of conforms around you and  I was very uncomfortable.  :P

Bonibelle:
Yeah...that is all I need HOT!  Come in from the hot tub and get even hotter...I think someone on here mentioned how their wife needed a cool down period before she could go to sleep...that's me..so NO HOT mattress! I also read on that Mattress forum that some of the memory foam material in pillow tops will break down from sweating..so that is a weird thought but maybe that is why there were so many complaints..I am trying to figure that out...why..is it the pillow top material or does it have to do with the coils?  I think I may design a line of bedroom hamocks...that sounds good to me.. :o
