Well I booked a flight on the weekend just because it was so cheap.  I got flight for 59$ return.  Total bill for two travellers was 122$

I stayed two years ago on a cheap package that landed me at the stratosphere.  It was to far out of the way and in a shady part of town.

So, because I got the flight for cheap I was looking at staying at a nicer place.  Oh, and it is also my fifth wedding anniversary.  I chose vegas as a suprise for my wife, because I know how much she loves me checking out beautiful woman.  Maybe this time, she may just order me a date for the night as a present to show how much she loves me.  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... Sorry, drifted away for a miniute.

So my question is, what hotels do you recommend.  I have been looking at treasure island, New York New York and Flamingo.  Bellagio, venetian, and Wynn are slightly out of my price range, by alot.  Ceasers is closer but I would still like to book a little cheaper so I have more money to tip the dancers,  oops I mean to have fun while down there.

Any comments

I stayed at  Madalay Bay. (Down on the other end of the strip)  I thought it was great. It was next to the Luxor, and a few other nice places.  It had some great resturants, pool, shopping and great casinos and was very classy without the vegas tack that some places have.

I would also recomend, if your looking for other activites while in vegas,  the helicopter tour  from Paypalon Tours over the Hoover  D@mn and down into the Canyon was amazing.  :)

I've been to Vegas a few times. The last 3 times I stayed at Luxor, NYNY and Excalibur (with kids that time). I really liked the first two as far as the hotel/casino and also stayed at teh Mandalay once which is right there and it's awesome. HOWEVER, I've also stayed at Bally's and Caesers and the thing I REALLY liked about those was the fact they were much more centrally located and you do walk a LOT unless you're the type to just camp out at the BJ table (blackjack). I would look into them along with Paris, Flamingo, Mirage & Aladdin; your feet will love you if you stay away from the hotels on the ends of the strip like the Luxor or Mandalay (as much as I REALLY like them).

Brewman:
I'd recommend a hotel Mid strip- like the Mirage- it's not the cheapest place out there, but it's very convenient.  As you found out the Stratosphere is on the far end of the strip and in a rather ratty area.
Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, and Excalibur are on the other end- very nice places, but getting from one end of the strip to another can be a long trip- especially if you're walking.

The Flamingo is pretty mid strip- and I think you can often find pretty good rates there.  I've not stayed there myself though.
