Most people can't name all the baseball teams but almost everyone will be able to name the Yankees. Baseball fans will hate the Yankees. The Yankees are mentioned with love and hate.
Not too shabby of a reputation ... there are teams that have moved to new locations and the Yankees are still in the Bronx!
BTW, I'm not a die hard fan but am a New Yorker ... I couldn't care less what any team does ... It's just a business.
As a business, the Yankees have the most recognised name in the world ... Show someone a hot tub, they may call it a Jacuzzi!

Vinny, I hope you know I'm just poking fun at the 'Bronx Bombers'. You're right, the Yankee are one of the most recognized single named entities ever. (Yankees, Elvis, 'Babe')
I moved from Illinois to Georgia then South Carolina years ago, so I'm a Dam*ed Yankee.
Down here in the 'south' the difference between a yankee and a dam*ed yankee is that a yankee goes back north while a dam*ed yankee stays. ;D
Don't even start on the Civil War or as some of my southern friends call it, ' The War of Northern Aggression'. >:( >:( >:(

Hey, not a problem, as a matter of fact I was being "in your face" about it because of the hatred that the name brings! :D
The only teams that I cheer for are my boys' teams. Whenever they play sports - I'm there for them!
I kind of chuckle about people who are so passionate about "their" teams - they don't own them, don't have a family member on them and no matter how good or bad their team does, they have to defend them to the death ... kind of like their spa brand! (OK, I'm guilty there as well!!!)
