Start Balboa Controlled Tub in Standard Mode
« on: January 27, 2021, 06:34:29 am »
Hi,

I have an old Spaform hot tub with a Balboa controller which supports standard and economy modes. It's installed outside in the UK, and uses a lot of power heating the water at times when it's not in use, e.g. overnight.

I have experimented with setting the filter cycles for economy mode to just heat up for when the tub is likely to be in use, but it's fiddly to get it right, and the worse problem is that if we have a power outage or I have to switch the tub off it loses the programming.

I'd like to experiment with using an external timer to give me more direct control, but the trouble is that when it starts up it always starts in economy mode and the heater won't run until 8 hours (!) after it starts.

Does anyone know a way to set the controller up so it starts in standard mode, so I can just control the on/off times externally?

Thanks
Andrew
