Salt System in Canada 2019

I've heard that salt systems will be banned in Canada by 2020.
Does anyone have info on that ?

Haven't heard anything, but it wouldn't completely surprise me, it always seems Canada and Europe always have different ideas on how to regulate and/or ban certain Hot Tubs products that are readily available in the US...Someone correct me If I'm wrong but I think when Hot Springs first launched their ACE system it wasn't available in Europe or Canada, but then Canada OK'd it I think? I don't know something like that.  If true it would be very unfortunate to those dealers who sell and support it, it's not just about having another revenue stream but customers actually love it, less call backs with chemical questions, water in the spa last longer, they spend less on water care products, etc.

It is all crazy. We used to get so much snow that they would truck it and dump it in Lake Erie. They had to stop doing it because the road salt was mixed with the snow. So now it gets piled up causing driving hazards and in the spring it melts and guess what the salt ends up in Lake Erie.

Pretty soon we will here of a project to get the salt out of the oceans to clean them up.

This may be totally incorrect - I'll lead with that statement.  But:

Bromine is outlawed / heavily regulated in Canada.  Most "salt" systems for hot tubs are Sodium Bromide.  Thus, I can see how they're banned.  I'll check into it...

I've dug into this a little.  Canada did a big re-eval on Bromine usage.  They came to the conclusion that Bromine, including sodium bromide, poses more of a health risk than they want to deal with.

I am not sure of the timing, but it sounds like everyone using Bromine in Canada might be SOL
