Borates
(1/1)
Botswana:
About to drain and refill tub. Want to try adding borates this time
Anyone tell me the specific product I need. I think I prefer boric acid so I only have to bother with one thing
I use @ease chlorine (spa frog) and a mineral stick. Should I still do 50ppm borate?
TA 50 when I do this? PH 7.6 ideally.. correct? Balance tub then had borates
castletonia:
If you are going to use borates, then yes, 50ppm or above would be the ideal amount. ProTeam Gentle Spa is the only one I am familiar with, but I am sure there are others. In my opinion, a total alkalinity of 50ppm is on the low side. I prefer at least 70-80ppm. Most chemical manufacturers and hot tub manufacturers want alkalinity between 80-120ppm and some, like BioGuard, prefer 125-150.
I would do borates before pH and alkalinity as not all borate products are pH neutral.
Botswana:
i was under the understanding boric acid was near ph nuetral and there were non-tub labelled products, like rodent killer that could essentially be used
castletonia:
I can't comment on anything not specifically meant for a pool or hot tub. ProTeam Gentle Spa is pretty close to pH neutral, but I know there are others that have a high pH.
Botswana:
Ordered straight boric acid. 99.9% pure. Hope its the right stuff.
