cover locks

I just took delivery of my new hot tub friday. A sundance optima and I love everything about it, with one small exception. the cover locking system. the standard plastic lock and key is very flimsy, and I already broke the key trying to lock and unlock. Does anyone have a better way to lock the cover, short of replacing it?

I have small kids so this is important.
