Bullfrog circ pump - questions on operation
Beck0101:
Hello, all. As a one week new owner of a Bullfrog I'm still deep into learning mode. I've got an A8L with the circ pump option.
As has been documented on this site several times the description of operation of the circ pump on BF spas is non-existent in the owners manual. Hence my post.
Should I be able to see the water moving when the tub is in ready mode (no jets running, not during a filter cycle)? Does this circ pump run 24/7 or only during the programmed filter cycles? If I am in a timed filter mode with no jets running should I then be able to see water moving and/or hear the circ pump?
I cleaned my filters yesterday and there was a fair amount of junk. When I removed the first filter I noticed nothing was being pulled into the filter inlet which leads me to believe the pump is not running 24/7 (I did not have the tub on hold). I haven't yet checked the tub during a filter cycle to see what's happening but I thought I'd post here first.
I'm just curious as to what I should be able to notice when/if the circ pump is running. Thanks in advance for any help!
Sam:
By default, the circ pump does not run 24/7. It's like 4 hours a day I think. You have to program the filtration cycles to what you want, which is in the owner's manual on the page that talks about your control panel or close to it. The water will only circulate during those cycles.

Very good. Thank you for your reply. Quite helpful.

Hello All,
To take this one step further, what's the recommendation on cycle times/temps if you live up North like Michigan? I intend to use the Tub every couple of days, it can get darn cold up here, last year wasn't too bad, however the year before it never got above freezing for 4 months.

I've so far left my cycles as the stock setup. I think mine runs 6-9pm and maybe 3-6am? I don't recall exactly the times but it is two separate three hour cycles.
I keep my tub at 100 so far. I'll probably bump it to 101 this weekend and keep it there for the winter. 100 seems just a bit too cool when I first get in...
