Buying a used spa
« on: October 05, 2013, 11:32:02 pm »
Hi everyone,

I've done research on this site on the dimension 1 sojourn.. Seems like a good brand and model.  The spa looks to be in good shape, it is a 2007 model.

What would be an acceptable price for this spa?  Owner is asking $2800 but it looks like they sell new for $6500-$7500 so seems high for a 2007 model?

Thanks for any feedback.

In general I'd say a 2007 spa is worth about 25% of its original cost so $2800 does seem a bit high but you should assume they expect to negotiate. There are of course other factors that can make a spa that age worth more like if they can show the pumps, controls or heater have been recently replaced recently then you'll feel they have more life to them and/or its just in great condition overall maybe it warrants more. Of course if the condition is not ideal for a 2007 then its worth less, you'll have to make a judgment call on that.  If it were from a dealer and/or came with a store warranty its obviously worth more since there is some degree of confidence that it is working fine so since its from an owner you need to check it out fully. Make sure you see it filled and fully up to temp and make sure its dry all around it. Ask to see the equipment compartment and make sure its dry inside as well. Turn everything on and see that it all works. Check out the cover to see if its in good condition and ask how old it is then check out how easy it is to open close so you know its not waterlogged.
