Jacuzzi J480 50A to 60A Conversion Question

(1/3) > >>

Tleo:
I just purchased a used, 2011 Jacuzzi J480 hot tub.  In getting ready to hook it up and run the electrical wiring, I can't determine whether the previous owner had it set to 50A or 60A configuration.  I have read people talk about the need to install a "jumper" but it doesn't appear that I have access to the electrical unit where a jumper would be located.  I have also seen people mention that it is now a "soft" setting that can be configured from the J1000 control panel.  I am hoping that someone can help me understand how to check this setting in the 2011 models so that I can ensure I run the right electrical wiring to the tub.

Thank you for your help.

TLeo -

I can't help with the jumper settings, but the good news is that your wiring requirements are the same for both a 50 and 60amp circuit.  6awg THHN run in RNM conduit will take care of things for you. Whether you need 3 or 4 wires is up to your tub's specific configuration.

I tried to find a simple table for you, but this one should suffice:

Thanks, Sorebikr. The issue is that I already have s 50A breaker and 8G wire running to an existing tub so I am trying to figure out if I need to rewire the whole thing or just use the 50a setting. I am worried that if the previous owner had it set for 60A, it will keep tripping the breaker. I don't know how to check that, though, so hoping someone will be able to educateg me before I go and rewire the while thing.

The bad news for you is that if you want this done right, and up to code, you need to rewire it regardless.  Your wire is currently undersized. A 50 amp circuit requires 6awg wiring.

Jacuzzi Jim:
The spa will accept 50 or 60 amp with out changing anything, I would recommend 60 amp.
